The beautiful enchanting rainforest

After spending a day at Mexico City I hopped on a plane to be with Choc
and the other guys in Cancun. Just as I got there Choc's brother Pilal
was there to greet me. Halo Amigos! Choc sent me to find you here.
The rumor is that there is more structures and treasures to find. Long
time no see! So we went to talk to the rest of the crew about sighting
another place in the jungle. The sound of the howling monkeys were
deafening.

It was hard to hear people talk over the sound of the monkeys. But I got the impression that we were going to see something beyond our wildest dreams. Choc was sure that he had found a special place, the sort of place that makes you feel something very strange happened there.

Just as we arrived in Cancun, there was a street party going on. I looked
at Pikal and asked,"What day is this?" He told me that it was Cisco de Mayo
day. This was like the 4th of July in the USA.

I knew that this was a very special day for Choc and Pikal, so decided just to join the fun and celebration. There was certainly no work going to be done today. It turned out to be an amazing day, lots of dancing, music and feasting. By the time I got to bed I was quite exhausted, all the travelling then the celebrating had tired me out. I slept very well that night, and in the morning could not wait to get started on my new adventure.

The next day we were on our way to Guatamala to look up another
interesting site. When we got there we found another hill with some
more stairs on it. Come here I shouted. Let's see what is under this one.

With great anticipation we hauled our equipment over to the site and began taking pictures and readings. One of our team member climbed to the top of the stairs to survey the surrounding area and take some aerial shots of the site. In the distance, several interesting mounds could be seen. These would have to be investigated at a later date.

So we set about the task of digging a trench at the foot of the stairs.

But....just as we started digging the trench, something happened....

There was a rustling in the jungle. Something was moving towards us at a very fast speed.

I stood tranfixed, I was too scared to move. Suddenly it appeared and I sighed, thank goodness it was just.....

 

[methodistgirl]

It was a jungle monkey wanting to play. It climbed up a tree and
hung upside down and threw a coconut at me then a mango as he
chattered and swung on a tree limb. I laughed at the sight.

I threw the fruit back at the jungle monkey, it laughed and scampered off. But back to work, we had a trench to dig and hopefully treasures to find.

After we dug the trench we found an underground water system. I looked
to my left and found a small pyramid with no top. It must have been a
platform where they did their sacrifices. Come on guys let's uncover this
beauty.

I looked around to find an entrance to the pyramid, I was hoping that it would not be full of water, suddenly I came across what looked like a very large tile, it was made of a different coloured stone to the rest of the pyramid. "Look here," I said, "this must be the entrance." Everyone came round to have a look, it was decided that we should all push very hard and see if the tile moved. Sure enough the tile began to give way and we were looking into the pyramid.

There was a ramp leading down into a chamber. It felt confined inside. This was smaller than your "typical" pyramid. The symbols painted on the walls looked as if they had just been painted not long ago. The majority of the artwork was still intact.

A stone slab in the center was supported by large stones. It was stained a dark color. We guessed that it was used to make the sacrifices long ago.

This chamber turned out to be another crypt to another famous chief.
My wife stood there and desiphered the glyphs and came up with the
name Chief Little Big Eagle. Ruler of Palanque.

This was very exciting for me, because only a while ago I had been reading a book about him. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to find his tomb. The glyphs also said that he had been murdered, I wondered if that was another mystery to unravel.

His wife was in a tomb next to him.

Her face was beautiful, it seems as if she was smiling with haunting eyes. I hoped that they were both at peace now.

right under the dark zone that stood for the ceiling of the room, a large-sized crow with yellow bright eyes emitted a deafening scream as if he warned me of some danger if i ever did something forbidden.

Then I remembered the old saying, that to look too long at the chief's wife would bring bad luck. I wondered how anyone so beautiful could bring bad luck, but I was taking no chances and looked away.
