The beautiful enchanting rainforest

I realised that this was a symbol of the Myans, that meant far more than just a calendar. It was good to be back among a place so full of history, I looked forward to being with Choc again. I knew there was still so much more to discover.

I was glad to feel the warm sun on my face again after freezing up north
going to my classes. It was snowing in New York City when I left for
Cancun. When I arrived I had to take off those winter cloths before I
burnt up. The warm weather of Southern Mexico was like a lovely warm
welcome of Buenes Dias with warm sunshine like summer. It was like walking
out of the door of winter and saying hello to summer again. While I visited
Palenque the sun was shining and I was enjoying being able to wear my
knee length shorts again with a tank top.

But I wasn't here for the sunshine, I was here to meet Choc again. There were more places to explore, and more treasure to find. It was good to see Choc again, he greeted me warmly. It was as if I had never been away.

"Choc I'm so glad to be here. You don't know just how cold it is where I
live. That's the reason why I'm back. To leave Winter snow behind and
come to a place I knew was warm." Choc handed me a piece of jewelry
he found at a sight that was a turquoise bracelet and a jade necklace.

The necklace was beautiful, and the turquoise sparkled in the sunlight. I was hoping that there would be more treasures at that site.

Choc and I talked for a while, it was good to catch up, but one thing that he told me was a little worrying.

Choc looked at me and said,"Look at all of these people coming to this
Chichen Itza to witness the first hour of winter. Funny is, our winters
here are different. We don't have one. We're here close to the equator
so everything is tropical. The only that we know it's winter is to come
here and watch the side of those stairs have what looks like a snake
going down. That's all. I have something else to tell you my brother
will be with you more than I. My wife and I are expecting and I may
have to leave you at any time."

This is just a tidbit for you, Judy. I just saw a movie last night called "The Ruins" and it takes place in Mexico, in the jungles and is about an archeology dig at a Mayan Pyramid site. Apparently, there are still people there who speak Mayan and not Spanish.

It's a horror movie, BTW, with blood and gore, but it was interesting none the less, to see the pyramid amidst the overgrown jungle. Maybe google for a trailer on it.

Sorry for interrupting your story, but I thought of you when I was watching it.

You are probably right that some of the people there still speak their
native tongue and not spanish. That would be your old people and
the kids who haven't went to school yet. I saw a lady on you tube
tell what the different glyphs meant and pronounced them.

Back to the story. I stood there congratulating Choc on his fatherhood.
He was right about one thing. His brother Bracar was just as good at
helping as working and worked even harder. We were at the sight of
Marador where a pyramid was discovered under tons of deb re like
trees, plants, and most of all dirt and sand. This was perhaps the
biggest pyramid next to Temple 5 at Tikal which was as tall as a
110 skyscraper. This one was as big as a mountain. As we uncovered
this structure someone shouted. Halt! Halt! Maya joya. Which means
Stop! Stop! Mayan jewels. I looked and saw the most beautiful
ruby I laid my eyes on besides Choc's ring. It was huge the size of
a golf ball and was cut like a diamond.

While I was in front of Choc's house his wife came out to talk for a while
to give my wife a beautiful orchid. She looked at Choc and said," Just
remember. I need to go to the hospital tomorrow to have my labor started.
If I don't start tonight or sooner." Later I was on sight with his brother
Bracar uncovering this pyramid in the dense rain forest. I found what
looked like glass and gently brushed away more dirt and found another
absolutely beautiful crystal skull and set it next to the one I brought
with me to Mexico. It was if the two were communicating.

As I cleaned the other skull off the more it had a little amethyst in it
which gave this skull a pretty clear color unlike mine that was clear
as glass and shined like a diamond in the sunlight.

As I dug for more pottery and other artifacts I looked up and realized the
pyramid was completely uncovered by Choc's brother and crew and it was
so beautifully huge. I stood in awe. Another American who worked with
us asked," How could just Indians build such a structure?" I looked at the
US american with amazement. "I'll ask you. How could a few men construct
the Empire State Building with what they had compairing what builders
use today? It takes team work and time to get the job done. That's how
they did it."

About that time Choc called his brother on the cell phone. After talking
for a while in spanish, he got up and cheered for joy. He soon came to
me and said, "I'm an uncle! Choc's wife just had a baby girl! Oley!"
Then handed me the phone. I had my crystal skull out when Choc called
and it began to glow but was cool to the touch when the sun came out.

Two days later, I was up in a helicopter with choc's brother looking for
more sights. You can't really tell the difference a pyramid from a small
mountain. The sights were breath taking. Looking over the jungle
canopy and then flew over Tikal. We went up a little farther north to find
Chichen Itza and what a sight with the pyramid tall and proud looking.

We flew to Belize to uncover a new sight that my wife and some other
archeologist found and they were finding jewels, statues, and more
stone carvings. So we landed just a walk away. What they found was
astounding. I picked up a bucket and a small hand shovel and started
to dig and found another crystal skull which had a little amethyst in it
which gave it a purplish look.

The crystal skull was beautiful, it was quite small though. I was wandering about that when a local man came up. He looked at the skull and then looked up at me. "Do you know why that skull is smaller than most?" I told him I didn't, and he said " it is because it was made for a special child, not an adult. I suspect that because it is purple like that, it was made for an ancient ruler called Balzar. He had a daughter called Amethyst, but she died when she was only five years old." I felt very sad to hear that, i could not imagine what it was like to lose a child so young.
