What jazz have you been listening to today?

Nice, Corno. I should add that most of the Coltrane works I listen to always feature Tyner as the pianist. These include the two I listed earlier today. I also intend to get the cd to which you referred in your post.

Hi Steve,
Regarding "The Essential Dave Brubeck".
Its a 2CD set and quite a bit is with Paul D. but a few surprises too:-
3 solos and single tracks with Cal Tjader,Jimmy Rushing,Carmen MacRae,
Louis Armstrong, Gerry Mulligan, tony Bennett, Bobby millitello (alto),
jerry Bergonzi(ten) and Bill Smith(cl).
Definitely worth a listen.
Today I'm listening again to Dave Br. "Early Concepts", recorded between '49 and '52 (another 2CD set)
Some of this is the early octet stuff, and the early trio with Cal Tjader, then the early quartet with Desmond
Strongly recommended
Cheers John

Thanks, Corno and John. I'll be sure and check out Bon Voyage!
Corno, I just came across a 1972 cd by Tyner on Amazon.com called Echoes Of A Friend. I was wondering if you have it--and if you do--what you think of it?

John, thank you for all that wonderful info on Dave Brubeck. Enjoy!

Hi White Knight,

I found and purchased a copy of "Echoes" here in Moscow. I totally dig McCoy's consistently unflappable verve. His artistry will be in perpetual memory...

I could hear some jazz, but it was just echoes from a concert so long ago... sigh...

There I was, sorting through a box I hadn't got to after moving, again... and again...
and I came across my McCoy Tyner ad and ticket stub from 1977, the "Atlantis" tour.
Sometimes even just echoes of a friend are stronger, lasting longer...

CD, I'm so glad you bought and liked that work. I heard snippets of it last night on Amazon.com, and it sounds like a keeper indeed! As soon as my wife takes me off the money leash she has me on, I fully intend to purchase it, hopefully by early next month. Also, I don't remember if you said you had coltrane plays the blues ornot. I was just listening to it in the car, and Tyner's solos on "Mr Day", "Mr Knight" and "Mr Syms" are so swingingly awesome I thought of you and how much you'd enjoy them.
So, Corno, even if you don't have the cd, please check these pieces out on you.tube or spotify.com {?}. Hope everything is well with you and your family
Peace Out--Steve

Today I listened to John Coltrane--coltrane plays the blues and trane's blues {prominently featuring Mccoy Tyner on piano on the former work, along with superb timekeeper Elvin Jones on drums}.
Dave Brubeck Quartet--Time Further Out

I've listened today to Antonio G. Jobim via his CDs "The Girl from Ipanema" and "Composer of Desafinado Plays"
Latin Jazz is great - has anybody got the Stan Getz CD "Bossa Nova"? I really recommend it.

I'm not sure that you can call Mr. Elvin Jones "a superb timekeeper".
He's so polyrhythmic he deconstructs time.
His first solo album, "Agape Love" with Joe Farrell, flute and sax, and Buster Douglas, bass,
has cadenza to chaotic, sublime to submerged... and... and... it's hard to find a beat.

Even though I'm not a big Al DiMeola fan, I did hear some of his "Strawberry Fields",
and no, it's not like when Jeff Beck did Stevie Wonders' "Cause We've Ended As Lovers.

Just like font laid font played, precedent set becomes just precedent met.

I hope Corno Dolce sees that line, not bad.
