I popped into H.M.V. today while in Newcastle.(-upon- Tyne-England) and couldn't resist a few amazing bargains I intend to list them in some detail over the next few sessions. Hope this doesn't bore you guys too much.

No.1
Ruby Braff -Three Classic Albums plus. (2CDs)
- The 1st album is "Hi-Fi Salute to Bunny" (Bunny Berigan) and lists personnel as Braff (tr), Benny Morton (tbn), Pee Wee Russell (cl), Dick Hafer (ten), Nat Pierce (p) Steve Jordan (gu), Walter Page (b), and Buzzy Drootin (dr).
- 2nd Album is "Easy Now" with first 5 tracks by Braff and Emmett Berry (tr),Bob Wilber (ten), Vic Dickenson (tbn), Marty Napolean (p), Mundell Lowe (gu), Leonard Gaskin (b), and Don Lamond (dr). and final 6 tracks by Braff (tr), Roy Eldridge (tr and flugelhorn), Hank Jones (p), and same gu ,b, and dr.
-3rd Album is "You're getting to be a Habit with me" with Braff, Don Elliot (?), Jones, Pierce, Hinton and Lamonde.
To top this off Jimmy Rushing sings on 3 tracks with the Braff's Octet at Newport.

felt like hardbop today,i couldnt have picked much better than these two albums. gord:cool:

My Fault -I shouldn't have put the stops in- It should be HMV (His Master's Voice)
which sells CDs etc here in England.
The next purchase yesterday was Bob Brookmeyer and Zoot Sims Quintet (originally 2 albums)
Album 1 is "Tonites Music Today" with personnel; B.B. (Valve Tbn); Zoot Sims (ten); Hank Jones (p); Wyatt Ruther (b); Gus Johnson (dr)
Album 2 is "Whooeeee" Same first three plus Bill Crowe (b); Jo Jones (dr)

Once again - great stuff

sonny rollins quartet-taking care of business-prestige (2lps) some of the best jazz ever recorded on these lps. with stars like ray bryant, red garland,max roach and john coltrane on the track tenor madness. classic hardbop. gord

bill evans trio-sunday night at the village vanguard-riverside (cd). this cd should be in every jazz collection. there is only one word you could use in describing this album, perfect. gord
