On Spotify:

The Ornette Coleman Quartet--This Is Our Music. I found this to be a little more "rough around the edges" and less melodic on the whole than The Shape Of Jazz To Come.

Trying to assess John Coltrane. Georgie Fame and Joni Mitchell on Spotify.

Thinking of buying "My Favourite things" by Coltrane. (I've got to prove I can listen to this guy).
G.Fame fascinates me- I'd forgotten how much I liked his sound.
OK teddy I have to admit Joni is a jazz singer and is starting to appeal.

@ John: I have the utmost confidence that you will--eventually--come to admire Trane for his great musical abilities and proficiency on that sax of his!

hi john,i second steves confidence in you and your effort to like coltrane. when you do, and i know you will, you will get many hours of pleasure from this genius. remember there was a time when i didnt like him. i suggest instead of my favorite things, you should listen to his albums on prestige. look for the ones that have art taylor or art blakey on drums, paul chambers on bass, and either red garland or wynton kelly on piano. they are all good, sorry good is not the word, i should have said superb.gord

Cannonball Adderly Quintet--In Chicago {featuring John Coltrane}. Outstanding album; it sounded as if Adderly and Trane were challenging each other to see who could produce more beautiful and lyrical solos. For me, they are both simply superb!
