I've been sorting out some CDs that (for reasons I wont bore you with) iTunes didnt like and therefore I couldn't download onto my iPod.
The happy result being that I've played music not heard for some time.
Examples are;-
1. "Ted Heath's 1st American Tour"
2. "Shorty Rogers and the Giants" This one was one I transferred from vinyl and incorporated an EP of "the Wild One"
3. "Doctor Jazz" by Muggsy Spanier
4. "Louis Armstrong with Oscar Peterson" Great vocals, piano, and trumpet
5. "Laughing to keep from Crying" Lester Young with a great group
6. "Lullaby of Birdland" Lee Konitz

I agree Gord! Right!

I had a Clifford Brown session.

A selection of tracks; Clifford Brown With Art Farmer; Gigi Gryce; Lou Donaldson; Lars Gullin; Arne Domnerus; Art Blakey; Philly Joe Jones;
Sonny Rollins; John Lewis; Lionel Hampton, Sarah Vaughan; Harlod Land; Max Roach; a.m.o.

(Now,Gord has gone and prompted me that it's time to go and dig out my 'Mulligan's!')

(And John, Muggsy Spanier, 'the great sixteen' is the one I have plus some club stuff with Earl Hines. Anyway...."Hello Central get me Doctor Jazz!! ...he's got what I need I'll say he has...")

boyd raeburn--experiments in big band jazz 1945-musicraft
earle spencer--the almost forgotten pioneer of modern big band jazz 1946-49-iajrc
two almost forgotten big bands.raeburns orchestra was one of the finest, but was unsuccessful.
spencers kenton inspired band was at times quite brilliant, but unfortunately never achieved any success.
if you see his one album that contains all his 78s, get it you wont be disapointed.a superb big band not
unlike kenton, but different.this band should have made it, a big pity that it didnt. gord

I had a night of the 'Mulligans'!
Various tracks from;
Mulligan with Ben Webster, Johnny Hodges.
Gerry Mulligan Quartet with Art Farmer-A Night In Rome.
Gerry Mulligan Songbook.
Gerry Mulligan with Dave Brubeck Trio-Live At The Berlin Philharmonie.

And, I ended by throwing a 'Spanier' in to the mix (owch!)
Muggsy Spanier-The Great Sixteen.
