just heard george shearing died today.what a tremendous loss, we are going to miss him. thanks george for 65 years of great jazz. rip.

That is sad news, he will be missed. May he play music in the heavenly orchestra, along with all the other great musicians who have gone before.

He was always a favorite of mine I still have some of his LPs with the quintet and some with Peggy Lee

Saw him at Festival Hall on his first return to UK back in the 60s, shared the bill with Joe Williams. A memorable concert.

Today I listened to Fuego by Donald Byrd, Search For The New Land by Lee Morgan, Indestructible by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers and trane's blues.

herbie hancock-day dreams-prism (cd). although released under hancocks name, this is a reissue of pepper adams-donald byrd quintet-out of this world from about 1960. nevertheless,this is a good hardbop album. gord
