hi colin, the hip string quartet consists of 1 violin,1 viola and 2 cellos. there is a nice rhythm section cedar walton, ron carter, micky roker plus afew solists james moody, andhubert laws recorded in 1968. it swings and is excellent. gord
So it's MJ+quartet+rhythm sect :) makes sense now, thanks gord.

Joni Mitchell & Herbie Hancock Fantastic combination of two greats. Mind you I am biased. I love her voice. Anyone hearing them together would have to allow Joni access to the hall of jazz singers. I would have liked to hear them do Court and Spark together. Does anyone know if they did an album together?

Gord, thank you so much for posting that link; it was fantastic watching--as well as listening to--Bobby Timmons, Lee Morgan and Art Blakey performing Moanin'. Great stuff indeed!

Nice gord, very nice indeed! One of the all time great renditions of a very evocative ballad by two of the masters: Cannonball Adderly and Miles Davis.

Gord, after seeing your post, I also listened to " Autumn Leaves" and some of the other cuts from the Somethin' Else cd by the Miles Davis Quintet. And it was every bit as good as I remembered it. I also played trane's blues from John Coltrane and Let Freedom Ring by Jackie Mclean. All in all, a nice listening experience on a snowy day in New York.

Tonight on youtube, which I finally joined, I heard "So What" by the Miles Davis Quintet and "Chameleon" from Herbie Hancock. I intend to start sharing links very shortly with my fellow MIMF members, just as they have been so kind to do with me and others in the past.
