Its funny that the "exclusive" clientele that buys tickets to attend the New Year's concerts in Vienna are so inadept sometimes.......

Hi Corno Dolce,

Well when i watch it live,i never encounter such problems with the audience but this 1989 audience seems to be very inadept really.Some of them just chats between the works without applauding.Coughs and hisses are everywhere and i even caught a woman posing for it when the camera in front of her began to shoot the audience.She was smiling at the camera and playing with her hair.A hilarious scene...Still Kleiber made history in front of their eyes.They deserved much worse like the one Mehta conducted in 2007 or like the one Maazel conducted in 2005.

Well Corno,i must say i am not a big fan of Karajan,i always thought him to be too polished for my tastes.Efficiency is not everything -to me nearly nothing- in sound.I prefer Jochum's Bruckner to his.For the magnificent 2nd movement of this symphony Furtwaengler of course despite mono sound unsurpassable.For the whole of the symphony i favour Böhm.He has a studio version which is hard to find but worth all effort you will give to find it.

Rachmaniniov 2nd piano concerto.Leif Ove Andsnes soloist wiht Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Antonio Pappano.Pappano's conducting is light and vivacious as always good accompanying,Andsnes is fast but accurate,noble but intense and emotional.He is very good as but he lacks the unique stamp and character that would make him great.
