I heard about this, Judy. You can read more here. That's terrible, indeed.

Hard to tell. The article says he's been charged with second-degree murder, so he'll go to the prison, I guess. The question is for how long?

At least the poor victim was asleep, listening to his iPod when he was stabbed and decapitated. So, maybe the first stab killed him and he didn't feel much pain...one can only hope. I must say, though, this is quite rare on the news in Canada. In 9 months there have been very few violent crimes reported and most occur in Toronto. This was on the west coast. Still, it pales in comparison with what one sees on the news from out of the country.

That's a really horrid news report ... stabbing the poor Who? was bad enough but decapitating him ... Christ what's the world coming to, just awful.

Update on Fritzl's case:

Austrian prosecutor's office claims that Joseph Fritzl, who imprisoned his daughter for 24 years, is guilty of burning his son (concepted with his daughter) to death. The investigators wanted the other Fritzl's children to testify in this case. However, the court did not agree. Judge didn't want the children to go through this nightmare again.

"Fritzl's children are not going to testify. That is final decision." says the court's president. The judges decided that evidences collected so far are enough to conduct a trial.

He is accused of throwing the newly born son into a stove and burning him while he was still alive - as we can read in British "The Sun".

Hopefully there is enough evidence to hang him! I can't stand that kind
of abuse and don't understand it either. If the laws are still like they
were in europe he won't be getting out unless he dies. I believe the
prisoners will take care of that for him. Because other inmates don't
like abuse.

You´re absolute right Ms. Judy :tiphat:

Prisoners have their own inside hierarchy, meaning that rapists and child abusers/pedophiles all over the world, ranks the lowest while in prison.

I remember a couple of years ago a Danish pedophile, who were rushed to the hospital outside the prison, while being convicted on 7 years abuse of his own 12 years old son, even renting his son out to other filthy pedophiles in the southern Denmark for money. Someone inside the prison had broken the handle of a broom in two and had stuffed the broken handle up the behind of this convicted prisoner, obviously to make this filthy low-life guy experience extreme pain, equals the same pain his son must have felt being raped by severel guys over a period of 7 years.

Way to go prisoners!! I can´t feel any mercy nor pitty nor excuses with pedophiles, because they lure these children in to a game they completely controle. Children are innocent and defenceless, because any child will do whatever it takes to receive care, acceptence, contact and love from it´s parents, not knowing that a father or mother or the both of them can be sexual monsters.

Wictims of pedophiles will live the rest of their lives, not being able to believe in and trust other adults. They will have their own normal sexual experiences and sexual relations completely ruined and will never, not even with the best of care from psycologists in the aftermath, like the Fritzl children, be able to enjoy sex.

There are still some countries in the Middle East where even adultry
is punishable by death.

Yeah, but I'll tell yu that if you ever choose to witness a stoning beit on one of those death and carnage films or whatever, your likely not to support this form of punishment. I'll try to find yu a link but I'll click on it just long enough to confirm that's what it is. That was the most ugly n' horrific thing I have ever seen. I have no i-effin-dea how those that participated can possibly live with themselves. So very extreme a punishment to apply to one that simply cheated on their spouse-as if anyone save the spouse should have authority to hand down any form of punishment anyway.

Not that I've construed you necassarily do or don't subscribe/support, mind you.:)

A lot of American Indian nations dealt with lawbreakers by sacrificing
them to the gods! Especially the Aztec and Mayans would blood let by
taking off fingernails until they were bleeding. They also did some blood
letting elsewhere I can't say here because it involves a man's parts.
You get the picture?

Recently there was a woman given a three month jail sentence for graffiti-ing a cafe in Sydney. It seems a bit over the top at first glance, however graffiti is a real problem, and people have been getting off too lightly.

Here in England punishment rarely seems to fit the crime. For muging an elderly lady probation is the normal "punishment". Rape and even murder offten end up with the culprit let out of jail after only a third of the sentence, partly because of the overcrowding in prisons. Life does not mean life but an average of 8/9 years. A lot of offenders re-offend here and prison is a farce with computers/internet in their cells, cable televion etc. It is one of the only places where you can smoke indoors without prosuction (the other is the house of commons, and that is full of the criminally insane). A lot of the prisoners lead quite a good life and have as many luxurys as the average working man.
Punishment, at whatever level should be punishment, harsh enough to make you think twice about re-offending.

Bring back the birch and the cat o' nine tails, instant cure of repeat offenders. Barbaric but very effective, helps relieve overcrowding in jails too.

My grandfather was a prison warder at Wormwood Scrubs in the 1920s, he used to administer the birch, claimed to never having a return customer.

Hi teddy,

Here is my vote for Dorsetmike, any one who could sort the system out. Let's make punishment so awful, that people would not want to re-offend.
