At the moment: Grand Pièce Symphonique by Cesar Franck.

One of several of my favs of Franck ... can't play that one, but always enjoy listening to it. Always amazed at the hand stretch required to play his music - fortunately I can do the octave and a thirds and the mountains of finger substitutions as in the Chorale #3 in A Minor. That one I do play .. often.

Hello Krummhorn,

The Chorale in B-minor is my fav but I love all of Franck's organ works. His Prière and Pièce Heroique can sometimes be a bit gnarly during performance, but with an intensive practice of said pieces just before a recital, usually makes the performance go swimmingly well.

Cheers,

Hello Krummhorn,

Many years ago I heard a program of Bach and Vierne on the Flentrop at Duke University. It did what was expected of it in the Bach but to do French Romantic on a Flentrop just sounded Blah :scold::scold::scold:

Ok, back on topic: Michael Murray at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.

Cheers,

Hi Corno Dolce,

I quite agree ... French romantic and the Flentrop do not match ... but the album intrigued me and I had to listen ... quite bland ... like mashed potatoes without ketchup

Back to topic: Dixieland Jazz played by the US Coast Guard Band - Delightful

Hello Krummhorn,

I hear ya, bruddah. French romantic on a Flentrop - an oxymoron at best ;):smirk:

On topic: Gabrieli - music for antiphonal brass choirs.
