What jazz have you been listening to today?

Hello Intet,

I shall venture forth this statement: Since Keith Jarrett and the Standards Trio are pretty much a phenomenal representation of the best there is on the Jazz scene - lets call them Jazz Ambassadors - what do Ambassadors do? They represent! In the case regarding the Standards Trio, they represent the finest there is about Jazz and people with excellent taste for excellent Jazz will be drawn to them.

Methinks that many others had heard the same music yesterday, unbeknownst who else was listening. Just like the music of JSBach - it reaches out and draws people together. Just like great art: Botticelli Frescoes, Sculptures by Michelangelo, the Art collections in the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Russia, The Louvre in Paris, the Prado in Madrid, and the Met in New York, to name a few...

Dino Timoteo Saluzzi born in Campo Santo, in the Argentine 1935. Taught by his father at home to play the bandeneon. Dino left for Buenos Aires in 1952 and were adopted into the argentine tango orchestras, where he met the saxophone player Gato Barbieri and the both of them joined the tango tradition in the well known Orquestra Estable at the radio station El Mundo, where they met Astor Paizzolla, the well known composer of tango music in the Argentine.

So this morning, February 4 2008, where we seem to be blessed by the weather Gods with a day with some sunshine, however not visible at this moment around 8 Am, I present to you Dino T. Saluzzi on his album from the ECM Records 1985 "Once Upon A Time".

Nice choice on the endless list of Chick Corea albums. This one you chose from the Electric Band era, released by GRP Records 1988 - Feat. CC (piano, keyboards, synthezisers), John Novello (additional synthezisers), Frank Gambale (guitars), Eric Marienthal (saxophones), John Patitucci (double bass, el. 5-6 string basses) and of course the monster drummer the awesome Dave Weckl behind the kit.

Cromaticism, are you a convinced Chick Corea addict? Like your´s truely, except for CC´s personal believes and belonging to the Scientology Church, orchestrated by L. Ron Hubbard, who in the late 1970´s was on the "wanted" list for questioning by the FBI, USA? I believe it was on charges due to taxavation?

Well, CC's one of my main influences when it comes to my music (where you can get a feel of it via http://www.freewebs.com/chromaticism/music.htm especially on "Picturesque" and "Family Portrait" from "Opus No. 1"). I'm actually more into the the "Return To Forever" era, "The Romantic Warrior" being my favorite album. I especially loved "Duel of the Jester and The Tyrant" as well as the title track. Though CC's Elektric Band was amazing, I think his most creative and heaviest output was from the RTF days. Despite being completely amazed by CC, I don't subscribe to his philosophy or his religion. With that being said, can never deny being addicted to his music. :grin:

"The Romantic Warrior" is and has always been back to the 1970´s my personal favourite Chick and RTF album as well. RTF basicly founded by Chick and Stanley Clarke. Funny though, the RTF as a band first had Airto Moreira and Flora Purim in it with Joe Farrell. Then the american RTF turned electric on "Hymn To The Seven Galaxy" and "Where Have I Known You Before" now with the guitarist Bill Connors and drummer Lenny White. I believe Al Di Meola replacing Bill Connors, only performed with RTF on "No Mystery" and "The Romantic Warrior", where his acoustic guitar almost solo accompanioned by Chick on track 3 the title song - to me stand out as one of the addmost beautiful technical HIGH class acoustic guitar solos in the world - then and today. Still does to me.

Of course it was CC, who originally found and mentored Al Di Meola, while he was very young. A class act on any guitarist.

For chromaticism, while we´re at Chick Corea & Return To Forever, the album "The Romantic Warrior" Columbia Jazz1976/remast. 1999 Sony Music Legacy feat. CC (piano, keyboards, synthezisers), Al Di Meola (guitars), Stanley Clarke (double bass, el. basses) and Lenny White (drums, percussion).

I attended RTF in Copenhagen 1977 after the realese of "The Romantic Warrior" the year before. The concert still shivers me and having the trill down my spine remembering the band playing as if it was the last performance in their lives, as if this performance would mean the difference of being alive or?

chromaticism - I forgot to ask you whether you know and have listened to the RTF LIVE - BIG Band, you know with the horn section and the wife of Chick´s, Gayle Moran (vocals, violin, keyboards).

On this 3 double LIVE album (first on vinyl records), the new drummer Gerry Brown behind the kit instead of Lenny White, showing his talents as a drummer. On the album there is a great edition as a duo between Stanley (double bass) and Chick (piano) on "On Green Dolphin Street" and the RTF band speeding on "The Musician".

Wow, thank you very much. I'm glad you enjoyed my music.:tiphat: I do hope I could bring in more music in the soonest time possible. Anyway, the only RTF big band recordings I have is that of a Stanley Clarke penned composition (I forgot the name, sorry; I think the name of the piece has this Mickey Mouse on it, not sure really) and "Musicmagic." Musicmagic is really amazing in that there are these impressionist/fantasy themed parts to it then shifts to a funky/discotheque-like portions, improvisations etc.

It must have been a really amazing experience having been to an RTF concert. How I wish I had that opportunity.

I believe we´re talking of the same live album. The songs "Musicmagic" and "So Long Mickey Mouse" are on the 3 double album as well. However this recording had a copy later on, with not so many songs as the 3 double album.

In 1996 Sony Music released an album in the series called "This is Jazz". The 5 songs on this album by RTF are: 1. The Romantic Warrior 2. Sorceress 3. Musicmagic 4. So Long Mickey Mouse 5. On Green Dolphin Street.

The first "Electric Band" GRP Records 1986 by CC was an album called "Electric Band" feat. CC (keyboards, synthezisers), Scott Henderson/Carlos Rios (guitars), John Patitucci (el. basses) and Dave Weckl (drums, perc.).

Both JP and DW participated in CC´s trio as well "Acoustic Band" at the same time, while recording with Electric Band, where different guitarists participated, like you mentioned Frank Gambale AWESOME guitarist both on acoustic and el. guitar. The saxophone player Eric Marienthal has been a steady memeber like FG for years. Listen to the album "Inside Out" by GRP 1990.

I have all the albums with Electric Band and Acoustic Band. beside all the RTF albums and every album CC has recorded since "Now He Sings, Now He Sobs", from A&R Studios 1968 feat. CC (piano), Miroslav Vitous (double bass) and Roy Haynes (drums), through the albums CC recorded in duo with Gary Burton (vibraphone, marimba) "Crystal Silence" ECM Records 1973 to the "ARC" and "Circle" both from the ECM Records feat. CC (piano), Dave Holland (double bass) and Barry Altschul (drums) + Anthony Braxton to "My Spanish Heart", and some of the few solo piano albums by CC "Originals", Stretch Records 2000 and "Standards", Stretch Records 2000, to his latest group "Originations" 3 albums on Stretch Records 1998/1999/2001 etc.etc.

Happy for you chromaticism. I admire you´re skills to play so many different el. instruments not only well, but extremly well in short - you are a natural. The world of music is at your feet, dear sir. Take it to be your´s....you deserve it
