"Best of the West" by Charlie Haden.
Corno Dolce, respect on your choice, another master on the double bass.
"American Dreams" Gitanes Jazz, Universal Music, France 2002 feat. Charlie Haden (double bass), Brad Mehldau (piano), the late Michael Brecker (tenor saxophone), Brian Blade (drums) and The 34 Piece Orchestra (the name of the orchstra).
Charlie Haden with a very abusive past from drugs, while still young in the 1960´s. Took him almost 6 years to clean up and get back to jazz, composing and performing. With Keith Jarrett´s
The American Quartet feat. Dewey Redman (tenor saxophone, chinese musette, percussion) and Paul Motian (drums and percussion) for a number of years.
There are two albums with this outfit that I absolutely adore "The Survivors Suite" and "Eyes Of The Heart", both thse albums from
www.ecm.com 1977.
He had a quartet called "Quartet West" with Alan Broadbent (piano), Ernie Watts (tenor saxophone) and Larance Marable (drums) - 5 albums in all. Some of them with a String Orchestra.
CH has performed with all the giants in jazz, beginning with The Ornette Coleman Quartet and in recent years solo in his own name. Pat Metheny had CH playing on the album "80/81" with Michael Brecker, Dewey Redman (two of the very best tenor saxophone players at the time) and then Mr. Drums unlimited Jack DeJohnette - to wrap it all in.
CH has had the big band - The Liberation Music Orchestra for years with different musicians, very political band, and Charlie haden has never kept his mouth shut when talking politics, like Pat Metheny. He also often play with the Carla Bley/Stewe Swallow Big Band.
Charlie Haden one of the very few musicians, who actually made a song called "Silence". I prefer the song from Egberto Gismonti´s album "Folk Songs", The trio Gismonti (acoustic 8 and 10 string guitars, piano), Jan Garbarek (tenor and soprano saxophone) and CH.
Charlie Haden made a duo album with Pat Metheny, can´t recall the title though.
Glad you´re in to Charlie Haden as well Corno Dolce.
