Did you ever wonder how it would be to awake one morning in the middle of the Amazon Jungle, Brazil far from civilisation. The brazilian multi instrumentalist Egberto Gismonti (8 string acoustic guitar, piano, indian flutes, percussion, voice) and Nana Vasconcelos (berimbau, corpo, voice, percussion) on the album "Danca Das Cabecas" ECM Records 1977 play the music of the jungle with hundreds of thousands of different birds, monkeys, the jaguar, reptiles, red ants etc.etc. Beautiful album.

Joey DeFrancesco - Relentless

Hi Mat, how´s ya been dude?

Nice choice with Joey DeFrancesco (organ, trumpet). I don´t have any albums with him in his own name, but I do have him on the stage live at the Montreux Jazz Festival 1995, Warner Bros. Schwitzerland 2000 playing in the former trio The Free Spirits feat. John Mclaughlin (guitars), Joey Defrancesco (organ, trumpet) and Dennis Chambers (drums).

Does it still rain in Poland, like it has done throughout the entire month of January in Denmark? Someone here has not behaved good, since we´re being punished by the reservoirs of the heavens on a full scale.

Funny I should have dug out Ella Fitzgerald on vinyl yesterday, because on television last night was a very interesting prgram about the human voice and how it worked etc.

One of the clips feature was the great Ms Fitzgerald herself. Always a delight to see clips of her singing...

Hi Intet:grin::grin:,

Yeah, Joey's da man! You should definitely get some of his recordings. I bet you'll love it. Not to mention Hammond organ - one of my dreams;).

And the weather's finally got better. But it's stil not typical for this time of year.

Best regards,
Mat

NEB, haven´t anyone on this ship told you always to check in with your commander when and if searching for specific info on jazz?

You asked about Stan Getz, Astrud Gilberto and the song "Desafinado" by Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Seak and you shall find NEB!!

Check out the post, I sent to Mat on the "Jean-Luc Fillon" thread, below this one in this forum on January 5 2008. The double CD "Bossa Nova Moods" from Verve Records 1999.

Mat, buddy of mine :grin::grin:!!

Calculating and counting..... Now let´s see my friend. First it was the oboe, then the piano, the cello of course, then the soprano saxophone and now your latest dream the Hammond B3 organ.

You definitely need a manager Mat :grin::grin::grin::grin: on your dreams of a concert playing each and everyone of these instruments, by yourself of course. At your service sir.

How about The Carnegie Hall, N.Y.C. in the USA come october 14th? No....hang in there Mat....., wait a minute Mat. I think, Yes, I might be able to squeeze you in at The Royal Festival Hall, London, England - same date but a month later in december 2008. How´s that with your scedule?

One still has a few connections within the EU and over the pond :grin::grin::grin::grin:.

Best to you,

"One Quiet Night" by Pat Metheny.

Corno Dolce

"This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship...", spoken by Humphrey Bogart to Claude Rains in the movie "Casablanca" post sending the love of his life, Ingrid Bergman for safety.

Wow Corno (not corny :grin::grin::grin::grin:), my man in Oceania.

"One Quiet Night", by Pat Metheny - Solo concert on acoustic baritone guitar, by Pat Metheny Productions/Warner Bros. Records 2003.

Talking about telepathy. I only purchased it yesterday after having the album in order for close to 6 months. You were right about the PM Productions, spoken on an earlier thread.

Pat even plays "My Song", by Keith Jarrett recorded by KJ´s scandinavian quartet from ECM, 1978. Never heard anyone dare to copy this song before and then solo on the stage. Remarkable :cool::cool:.

But then as they say. There are more things between the heavens and the earth for one single soul to comprehend.

Stay cool :cool::cool: laddy!!

How does one combine the quietness, then singing, the music from the pipe organ, the children choir, the sermon from the priest, the prayors and the safety among equaly believers in the church on a sunny sunday morning towards the jazzy rock album "Chunga´s Revenge", the Zappa Family Trust 1970/remastered 1995 by the late musical freak-out storyteller and self taught guitarist Frank Zappa and his band then The Mothers of Invention. That´s a freakin´name for an all male band.

It doesn´t really matter. It happened. As soon a I came back I went straight to the CD player to put this very old album on. So much Frank Zappa alike and yet very jazzy.

Feat. Frank Zappa (el. guitar, vocals) Leech & Eddie (vocals - lead vocals too on the hit single by The Turtles 1969 "Happy together"), Ian Underwood/George Duke/Sugar Cane Harris (organ, keyboards), Tom Fowler (trombone), Garreth Bennett/Gene Simmons (el. bass), Ainsley Dunbar (drums) and Ruth Underwood (marimba, percussion).

And the sun is here on a completely blue sky spreading warmth and blessing.

Amen.

Hello my Danish friend:):grin::),

I've played a lot of different instruments: the oboe, the piano, the cello, the pipe organ - that is true. I also played the clarinet. Borrowed it from my friend. And to tell you more - never having played this instrument before I managed to learn how to play a solo from Beethoven's Coriolan in 15 minutes ;). The sound was terrible and it all didn't sound much like Beethoven but still - it was a great fun for me. But when it comes to my dreams there have been only two main instruments: the soprano saxophone and the Hammond organ. The saddest thing is that they are both out of my range. At least Hammond. Hard to find one I could play in my city...

And about all this managing stuff. I could really use someone who would help me out with all this:p. The first person I'd ask to help me would of course be you, Intet. So about December - it's quite busy month for me so I suggest January 2009. Is that ok with you? Let me know if you can make it work:p;):). Oh, and by the way: all MIMF members are invited!:grin:

Ok, enough:). Now back on topic.
Chris Botti - December

Regards,
Mat

Mat, great to read your post as usual, knowing you´re in for some funny buiness. The clarinet too, eh? You really must be a natural, and here I sit on this sunny day and have to admit, I can´t even play on a comb.

As to our live plans for January 2009, like The Beatles said: We can work it out.

There is a guy called Buddy DeFranco, who did some of his finest recordings with The Oscar Peterson Quartet/Quintet from the old days. He plays a fantastic clarinet. Not to mention a younger guy from the US, someone more around my age Don Byron. Try to Google both of them if you it pleases you.

See you later all......

Do your parents or brothers and sisters have the same cabability as you, I mean playing music and on various instruments? You seem to go from one instrument to the next like a journey, where most musicians remain with one or two instruments. But it is not rare for musicians in contemporary jazz to do so.

Please Mat endulge me if the music is common in your family and more persons play music every day and on different instruments? Do they also like jazz like you, my Polish friend?

In the early hours of Monday morning, January 28 after a glorious day yesterday. Sunday was sunny the whole day.

What could possibly be better than Chick Corea & Return To Forver from the album "Light As A Feather", A & R Studio 1968/remastered Capitol Records 1995.

Flora Purim (vocals) from down Brazil with her husband Airto Moreira (drums, percussion) former with Miles Davis. Stanley Clarke (double bass). It was before they called him Stanley (every bass in the world) Clarke, and Joe Farrell a long time friend of Chick´s on (tenor and soprano saxophone, flute). Everything kept in shape and boxed by the composer, the organizer, the magician Chick Corea (el. piano).

There´s a song called "500 miles high", where Flora Purim realy show of singing very high notes, but very bossa nova groovy alike, not to mention the last song: "Spain", due to Chick´s enheretance. This particular song has been one of Chick´s ever lasting songs in various editions. In duo with Gary Burton (vibraphone, marimba) or any band of Chick´s ever since and his rare solo piano concerts.

I just love the music by Chick Corea.

To tell you the truth, Intet, I'm the only one in my whole family who play an instrument. According to my folks it was my idea for me to go to a music school. Apparently I saw an announcement in kindergarten when I was a kid. That's how it all started. At least that's what they say. It was long ago and I don't remember correctly. I think I'm the only one in my family who really is into music (both playing and listening).

Nino Katamadze - a Georgian Jazz singer (Georgia as in Caucasus, not a US state). Absolutely love her. If somebody here (like Corno Dolce for instance) likes checking out new stuff - this could definitely be something interestiing!

Hello Muza,

Thanx for the tip!!! :):):) In June of last year was my first experience in listening to music from Georgia. It is very exotic and ravishing. They have an instrument like a hammer dulcimer and it is capable of a great dynamic range and has a spicy timbre.

Cheers,

CD :):):)
