I will be happy to let you know my perspective on the events I attend.
My dear friend Intet,
Call it coincidence or whatever you want, but I happen to have this album Pat recorded with Anna Maria Jopek. It is called Upojenie. If you are interested in having this album too, send me PM and we will work it out somehow
Respectfully,
Mat

I just got "Day Trip" myself Mat, after waiting excitedly for months. But as always from you dear friend, I am forever grateful for what you have already sent to me. I hope, when I/we leave tomorrow for the Copenhagen Jazz Festival that my old school buddy Rene´ will join me.
Anyways, I am like a child before Christmas, I can´t wait to go by the A-train at 12:05 PM tomorrow, with my old backpack with a sleeping bag and some extra clothes and a toothbrush, what more does a MAN and a real jazz freak need, except for an open mind and good spirits.
Mat :tiphat:
I searched at my local library and the natonal database for the "Upojenie" album with Anna Maria Jopek, but I did not find it. Instead, I found this one below:

To begin, here´s a link for the Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2008 showing different situations during the 9 days and nights of international jazz presented in Copenhagen 2008:

Picture 7 in the first link is from the award night of the yearly presentation of the Ben Webster Jazz Prize at Glassalen at the world wide famous amusement park Tivoli given to the two highly recommented musicians the half an half vietnamese/danish brothers Niels Lan Doky (piano, keyboards) and Chris Minh Doky (double bass), who performed both as the duo Doky Brothers and with each their own trio on the night.
Check out the Ben Webster Jazz Prize:

Chris Minh Doky Trio www.chrisminhdoky.com: featuring the Swede Lars Jansson (piano) and the American drummer Peter Erskine, probably best known from his days with the group Weather Report.
Niels Lan Doky Trio www.nielslandoky.com: featuring the two french musicians Didier Lockwood (violin) and Pierre Boussaguet (double bass) and the great Dane, Alex Riel (drums).
But mostly for the concerts, I am sorry to say that I had to give up the concert by The Charles Lloyd New Quartet for Cassandra Wilson in stead, since they both took place the same date at the same time. So here are the concerts, I attended and from which I will give you some personal views:
On July 6: The Doky Brothers Award Night at Glassalen, Tivoli at 5 PM (look to the above mentioned).
On July 6: The Wayne Shorter Band and the Imani Winds at the Opera around 8 PM. (in walking distance from Tivoli earlier in the afternoon).
On July 7: Saxophone Summit feat. the three Americans Joe Lovano, Dave Liebman and Ravi Coltrane, same venue at the Glassalen, Tivoli at 8 PM.
On July 8: Ornette Coleman Quartet with his highly energetic drumming son Denardo Coleman and two bassists at the Old Stage of the Royal Danish Theater at 8 PM.
On July 10: Cassandra Wilson Quartet at the Old Stage at the Royal Danish Theater at 8 PM.
On July 11: David Murray and his Black Saint Quartet at the Glassalen, Tivoli at 8 PM.
On July 12: The Brad Mehldau Trio at Glassalen, Tivoli at 8 PM.
These were the main events and venues, I personally came to attend, but beside those mentioned we both, Rene and I saw and listened to dozens of other more ordinary jazz bands from Europe and the standard New Orleans Jazz for *dancing in the streets*, like the American rock band The Doobie Brothers once sang it and most of the copenhageners did it throughout the night in some club or restaurent or even the smaller cafe had open to early in the mornings.
The great thing about Copenhagen center is that you have access to all the venues within a 4 miles perimeter, so you might as well use the horses of the apostles, meaning your own feet walking, rather than waiting for a cap or a buss for transportation.
I hope, I will be able to give you some first hand impressions and reviews on the Jazz Festival itself and all the things happening in Copenhagen due to the July 4 to 12. If God and Mat will it, I will be back next year with my great polish friend and the ultimate master of the examed polish bisquit, Mat.
