A bit of sarcasm is always good:grin::grin:, IMHO.

Stoned? I beg your pardon. I do not use that kind of stuff. And I don't recommend it to anyone. I simply use jazz as my drug. It's the best one and it's harmless;);).

Oh, there are 'others' reading

Actually, I'm more partial to the Ragtime and Swing era of jazz ... I could listen to that stuff all day and never tire of it.

Welcome to this thread among the regular sponsers. Not realy surpriced you would check in here, these guys here are real encyclopidias on modern jazz. However knowing of all the activities, talents and services you provide at the MIMF you´re welcome. The Ragtime and artists like Scott Joplin, the very best well known pianist from that time with the typical for Ragtime piano playing and the Swing era with the Benny Goodman orchestra as one good example as good jazz as any other jazz, and mostly both styles going back to the first half of the last century. The Swing raised to the top during the time just before and after 1940-1960. One only has to think of Frank Sinatra and the Nelson Riddle Orchestra.:D

Better to invite your new female date for Swing than modern BeBop or free jazz. Please give us some examples of your favoured Ragtime pianists and Swing jazz bands? ;)

To the two other sponsers.

Corno Dolce, Wow help me. I just purchased the Pat Metheny album "Secret Story" yesterday. I have listened to it all way through now for 8 times, this morning included. Wow, this is it and I do understand why you credited this particular album.

14 songs recorded with the London Orchestra in London for Geffen Records 1992. Obviously Pat Metheny surrounding himself with some of his very best friends in music. But the album is not from the PMG, but Pat Metheny, the man himself playing (acoustic/electric guitars, syntheziser guitar, electric sitar (song 7: "Rain River"), electric bass, piano and keyboards).

Song 8 "Always and Forever" played on acoustic six string guitar is very beautyful, reminds me of another song from "First Circle" - If I Could, the acoustic guitar played song, we both share as music for many a thought and images of beautiful women. When you entered the video Corno Dolce you realy touched my heart and had me sigh.

Mat if you´re around at this time of the morning, you should realy give yourself the chance to listen to this album "Secret Story" by Pat Metheny, while having a break finishing the Schubert Symphony, at least in your mind.

The album features PM´s friend from chidhood Lyle Mays (piano, keyboards, synthezisers) Will Lee (el. bass), Charlie Haden/Steve Rodby (double bass), Marc Ledford (voice), Gil Golstein (piano, accordion), Paul Wertico/Steve Ferrone/Sammy Merendino (drums, percussion), Armando Marcal/Nana Vasconcelos (voices, percussion) a Brass Band and The London Orchestra.

Wow - THIS IS AN AWESOME ALBUM - YES!!

I forgot to mention my favourite song, so far, on the "Secret Story" album is - "Finding and Believing" a very strange song with lots of percussion, cymbals, voices, strings and strange guitar playing. Until after the middle play and then all instruments, the whole shabang seems to work together for the finals. Pat throwing in some great acoustic 12-string guitar rhytm and this favourite of his half acoustic/half electric guitar - Groovy!!

But then the album is still quite new to me, and the song "The truth will always be", I also find beautiful, beginning quietly, until the syntheziser guitar breaks from everything else and every other instrument and rocks to the sky alone soloing.

IMHO, no one else like Pat Metheny can play the syntheziser guitar with such authentity and authoroty. There´s Pat Metheny and John McLaughlin on guitars, and then the rest of all guitarist mixed in a can.

Right on my dear sir Corno Dolce

Don´t ya know the Swedish www.CDON.COM - distributor CD label, where you can order CD´s or the Danish www.jazzkælderen.dk - also for purchasing CD´s. I guess you just download everything, like you mentioned before.

I have ordered "Trio 99-00" with Larry Grenadier (double bass) and Bill Stewart (drums) and the same trio "Live" double CD. Then the albums "We Live Here" and "The Road To You" and "Map of TWorld" a movie with music by Pat Metheny, and the PMG "Quartet" and "Imaginary Day", the new Metheny/Mehldau Quartet with Brad Mehldau (piano), Larry Grenadier (double bass) and Jeff Ballard (drums). I know Jeff Ballard from the Chick Corea Band "Originations" and CC´s "Past, Present & Future" album, by Stretch 2001.

Then I have ordered "Question and Answer" feat. Dave Holland (double bass) and Roy Haynes (drums). Also the "Speaking Of Now" album from 2002.

Lots of the PMG and new stuff from Pat Metheny, that I have never heard before. However, I still like some of the older stuff like PM´s "Watercolours" from the ECM Records 1977 feat. Lyle Mays (piano), Eberhard Weber (Weber upstanding el. bass) and Danny Gottlieb, not to mention his first solo album "New Chautauqua", by ECM Records 1979 feat. Pat (acoustic 6-12 string guitars, electric guitar and 15 string harp guitar, el. bass). How do you like the songs "Hermitage" and "Sueno Con Mexico"?

I forgot to mention two albums bought in second hand CD stores Peter bought for me while in Copenhagen last week. I don´t know if you have heard of these before. First album is titled "A Sassy Samba" The International Music Company 2001 feat. Pat Metheny/B.B. King (guitars, with Pat playing syntheziser guitar on a blues song), Dave Brubeck (piano), Jimmy Heath (tenor and soprano axophone), Percy Heath (double bass) and Albert "Tootie" Heath (drums).

The second album, a bit of a cheat since Pat Metheny is only on one song, the double album "The Song Is You", recorded at the 30th Anniversary for the Woodstock Festival in 1969 feat. Pat Metheny/Chick Corea/Anthony Braxton/Jack DeJonette/Lee Konitz and Miroslav Vitous. Pretty wild stuff.

I guess I´ll be flooded by Pat Metheny albums this spring.

A slight misconception on my behalf. The double CD album, I told you about "The Song Is You" where Pat Metheny is on All Blues, 22:56, it says in the liner notes:

The Creative Musíc Studio was founded by Karl Berger and Ornette Coleman in the 1970´s. A forum at the Woodstock Jazz Festival, for the community of world class musicians performing in an atmosphere that broke down all conventions of form and style and reconstructed music in new and exiting ways....".

All the standard jazz songs improvised on this live album September 1981, recorded in Woodstock, remastered at the label: Douglas Music 2005 have Chick Corea (piano), Anthony Braxton/Lee Konitz (alto saxophone), Miroslav Vitous (double bass) and Jack DeJohnette (drums) on 1) Impressions 2) No Greater Love 3) All Blues here with PM as well.

CD two are mostly duets or quartets without PM anb Anthony Braxton. But is
great to listen to everyone just freaking out improvising. ;)
