@ teddy, Last night, on Spotify, I listened to the album you had mentioned, namely Esbjorn Svensson Trio Plays Monk. Overall, I enjoyed it, except for the first two songs where it sounded as if they had inserted a string section. I really liked his cover of Beimsha Swing. Howver, I really think the original versions done by Monk are better. I also don't understand why they left out Straight, No Chaser, which--IMHO--is a Monkian classic and one of my all time faves. On balance, I liked the Retrospective album better than both this and Leucocyte. Hooray for Spotify, it's really a great tool! :clap:

just got back from four week vacation in the uk.been playing some of the cds i bought.
art blakey-moanin, two cd set consisting of the blue note albums, moanin and orgy in rhythm
horace silver-a fistful of silver two cd set consisting of the blue note albums, blowin the blues away and finger poppin
lee morgan-midtown blues two cd set consisting of the blue note albums,the cooker and lee-way
great classic hardbop, five quid each, i wish they would put out albums like this over here.
i bought a total of six of these great blue note cds. gord

great albums steve, some of the others i bought,
jimmy smith-the sermon-the two albums are the sermon and house party
hank mobley-dig dis-the two albums are soul station and roll call
kenny burrell-all day long/all night long
i bought about twenty jazz cds. gord

hi steve,the double blue notes cost five pound each, thats about eight bucks.the hank mobley only cost me three pound. it was a bargain. i think they were on sale. all the others i got on flea market and charity shops and only payed about a pound each. anyway i am happy to have these classic albums in my collection. gord
