Gord, that's a great find indeed: it sure sounds as if there is a lot of wonderful jazz music on those cds. I'm going to price them on Amazon and see what they are going for now. Thanks for reminding me! I had meant to buy that collection a little while ago but never followed thru.

Yes John, I meant the Jazz Crusaders. Apparently, they've been around for over 60 (!!) years now (not the exact same crew, obviously, but still). I hadn't heard of them until very recently, and found them while browsing for something else, I reckon.

I'm not an expert, but it seems to me the sample you provided has a kind of funk/soul feel to it. It's very similar to what I've heard of them so far. What's your opinion?

You could be right Mat but the sample I selected, for me, was verging on rock. Personally i liked them but not so far as to spend money on a CD.

Cheers John
(I will look for them in my local library)

stan kenton conducts robert graettingers city of glass and this modern world-capitol. this is the most unusual album in the kenton catalogue. avant garde in 1951. if you think john coltrane and ornette coleman play weird music, take a listen to this. gord
