Dont worry, Steve. You might (temporarily) be the only one posting about classical music but definitely not the only one listening to it :)

Mat, I'm quite sure you're right. BTW, Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

Thanks, Steve. Although we don't celebrate that holiday in Poland. But since you do - Happy Thanksgiving to you!

Mahler-Symphony No 5 in C Sharp Minor (emphasis mine). (Five movements) Austrian Symphony Orchestra. (Benjamin Yadin)
I know I've written about this elsewhere... but (apologies if you're seeing me repeat myself again) you take a sizeable step on the road to discerning the secrets of Mahler's 5th when you realize that it's a work of shifting tonality.

Movement 1: C-sharp minor
Movement 2: A-minor
Movement 3: D-major
Movement 4: F-major
Movement 5: D.

Today, I listened to Schubert's 8th & 9th symphonies- Charles Munch- Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Seems to me that Schubert's 8th must be deceptively difficult to conduct. The only conductor I've heard render it in a completely satisfying version is Mengelberg. Munch is about as close as I've gotten in stereo-era recordings.
