How's Your Weather?

Overcast and cool at 57f but the mist has largely cleared. A sure sign that cold weather is on the way

"Frankenstorm Sandy" on the way. Sending out thoughts of safety and protection to all our friends in eastern US and Canada. Let's hope it's much less intense than the predictions.

I hear some places are being evacuated. I hope our friend Steve is doing okay in NYC...

I second this, I hope everyone is doing okay with the storm. We were closed yesturday due to some down trees making it hard to actually get to school. Other than that business as usual today. And on my personal property one of our old oak trees (we have a ton of old oaks around the property) came down, so I guess I'll be recruiting the help of my kids to clean that mess up. Other than that, we've been extremely lucky, just rain and a bit of wind. Thoughts to everyone out there who are being more affected by the storm! Keep safe!

Thanks for that, Robin. I guess in our case, it helped (or, at least, couldn't have hurt).

We kept our power, kept our cable, and maintained our internet connection through the evening. [However, we DID power down the electronics yesterday evening, since leaving them on would fall into the "unnecessary risk" file.] So far, we wake up this morning to nothing more ominous-looking than some downed branches.

My present worries are for the barrier islands (especially our beloved Ocean City, NJ) and also for lower Manhattan, which had (has?) a major loss of power.

Now, I'm sure, is a good time to return those positive thoughts of concern and protection to the folks up the hill from us- especially Robin-- and also the people in her nation's capital-- which looks like it may be hit directly.

Cold and clear at 48f.

I also have been watching the news and wish everyone out that way a speedy return to normality. Luckily all my relatives are in California.

Glad to hear you made out pretty well, Eric and musicteach.

We had strong winds Monday night and some rain, but no flooding or anything like that. Toronto had it a bit rougher than here, and last I heard was that it was over New Brunswick.

Some very sad moments, but it's also heart-warming to see so many people helping each other.

Hope Steve's okay, he's probably without power.

@ Rojo, I thank you and all of my other fellow members for your concern. My part of Queens came through basically unscathed, and--this time around--we actually kept our power, except for a brief time early on Sunday morning. Unfortunately, my brother-in-law in Lower Manhattan, my father in Eastern Queens and my best friend in Western Queens are still without any power as of this entry.
I do fervently hope that you and your country will be spared any horrific storms which might be on the horizon.
