Re reading A clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. Am I getting old or is it getting nearer to the way things are today. The mindless violence, the extremes of dress and the legal drugs which are sold in shops, sometimes with fatal results. Violence in the old days was mainly between gangs. These days it seems to target anyone who gets in the way. As in 1984 the ending of this book is the frightening bit.
So many things are allowable these days and it seems that if the police can't handle it, then legalise it, thereby getting rid of the problem. But God help the average citizen if they put a foot wrong. Then the full force of the law will descend on them. Talk about soft targets.
Enjoyed the book more than the film which I saw as too stylised and typical Kubrick in its use of extreme colours.
