Hey Corno, I listened to that link that you provided. It was cool, but kinda creepy - I was visualizing the Gorgoyles on the Notre-Dame ;)

Hi Muza,

Ah, you listened to Maestro Latry doing his Notre-Dame improv - Yes, if one has never experienced improvisations at this level of skill, it can give goosebumps and alliterations to something phantasmagorical. In a way, he plays a one movement mini-symphony in the space of almost ten minutes, replete with fast and slow and fast movements.

If you've ever heard Berlioz's "Symphonie-Fantastique" there are "creepy" moments there too. The super creepy Saint-Saens "Dance Macabre" and Liszt's "Mephisto Waltz" have been played on symphonic organs like the one at Notre-Dame.

Cheers,

CD :):):):)

I just listened to Liszt's Mephisto Waltz and i can only imagine it played on a symphonic organ - and it sounds creeeeepyyyy in my head. But I like it, its got that mystical strenght that captures you and doesnt let you go - its very powerfull in that way!

If anybody wants to listen but is lazy to go find it, here is the version that I listened to:

I have heard of an orchestra play this waltz. It sounded a lot better
with an orchestra with also the pipe organ.

Right now The Standards Trio, the song "Five Brothers" from the album "My Foolish Heart" released in 2007. Keith Jarrett on the piano exploring the highests tones of the register for minutes on end up and down, in and out (probably while dancing behind the piano), while Gary Peacock (double bass) and Jack DeJohnette (drums) exhausted to follow the tempo, driven at 210 mph. by Keith Jarrett.

After beefing up my computer sound system (better speakers plus a sub-woofer) I listened again to all of Frederik Magle's compositions. What a difference to hear all the clarity of sound along with actual bass notes being heard and felt.

Great to hear Krummhorn.

Congratulations on your new sound system for the PC including a sub-woofer, Wow, which have given you much more joy, listening to the recordings of Sir Frederik.

Malcolm Arnold's fantastic concerto for viola and chamber orchestra ... it is such a vivacious and virtuosic work, sadly never heard in the concert hall.

Hi Muza,

It'll be interesting to hear what you have to say after listening to Cameron Carpenter playing the "Mephisto Waltz".

Cheers,

ps. At the moment: Messiaen's "L'Ascension" played by Olivier Latry at Notre-Dame in Paris.

Hello Sister Muza,

I'm glad that you took an interest in it. When you get a terrific artist doing a famous piece on a suitable instrument, the results are usually astounding. Peter Richard Conte who plays the Wanamaker Organ on a CD entitled "Magic" does very much enthrall the listener with the organ transcriptions of famous orchestral works - it is sheer, unadulterated, and pure magic what he does.
Here's the CD:
