Frank Sinatra (feat. Count Basie Orchestra) - Live At Sands

I'm telling ya, the guy was a comedian as well.

You did not know Mat? :tiphat::clap:

Just think of his love song towards his town Chicago or "New York, New York" even "Strangers In The Night" or his acting in the great American movie from way back in the day "From Here To Eternity" co-starring with Montgommery Clift and Burt Lancaster and some good loking for the time - chicks on Hawaii (I believe). The only time he got killed on the white screen, where he probably got the idea to the song "One More For The Road" and "In The We Small Hours Of The Morning". I love his technical skills and rhytm, he was actually very good looking at that time, seemed to have controle over everything and as a singer of jazz in particular with a Big Band on songs like "Mac The Knife" and "All The Way" or "The Lady Is A Tramp".

Honestly Mat, though his addiction forced by Mr. Sam Giancano (Chicago Godfather), Frank Sinatra had a great career and Frankie Boy was popular all over the world. WE LOVED HIM.

He was one quarter of the gang, called The Rat-Pack, which meant friends with Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and the english actor Peter Lawford, they drank, smoked cigarets all the time on the stage, performed on The Sands and the famous Cecars Palace and had fun, obviously the audience loved them then too.

I still listen to his jazz albums freequently.

Kenny Wheeler Quintet on his album "Flutter By, Butterfly", released by Soul Note Records, Italy 1988.

The Canadian born Kenny Wheeler, now recident in England, was the first flugelhorn player on his album "Gnu High" 1976 (Wheeler, Jarrett, Holland and DeJohnette), who made me love the sound of this beautiful instrument, somewhat more difficult to blow according to the danish master Palle Mikkelborg equally to Kenny Wheeler.

The musicians:

Kenny Wheeler - trumpet and flugelhorn
Stan Sulzman - tenor and soprano saxophone
John Taylor - piano
Dave Holland - double bass
Billy Elgart - drums

The American monster drummer Dave Weckl with friends on his debut solo album "Master Plan", by the GRP Records 1995.

After more than 14 years of playing, performing and recording with the Chick Corea Electric and Acoustic bands, Dave Weckl decided to pay tribute to another monster drummer and mentor in drumming, Steve Gadd, who also had played, performed and recorded with Chick Corea on several albums.

At the same time Dave Weckl was ready for the first solo album with his own compositions and musicians of his own choosing.

The remarkable thing with this album is the title song "Master Plan", which begins very funky but soon turn in to a drums duel between the older master Steve Gadd and his protege the new monster drummer, Dave Weckl.

The musicians:

Dave Weckl - drums
Chick Corea - piano
Jay Olliver/Tom Kennedy - keyboards and synthesizers
Michael Brecker - tenor saxophone
Eric Marienthal - alto and soprano saxophones
Anthony Jackson - acoustic bass guitar
Tom Kennedy - el. bass
In addition Steve Gadd - drums only on "Master Plan".

Awesome debut album from Dave Weckl.

The drums and cymbals for Steve Gad are more simple, but the man behind the kit Steve Gadd has played with everyone long before Dave Weckl was born.

Of course talking about drummers, my all time favourit jazz GIANT drummer Jack DeJohnette born in 1942, celebrating 50 years anniversary as a drummer 1958-2008:

jackdejohnette_2.jpg

Today from the album "Special Edition", recorded by the ECM Records 1980.

The musicians:

Jack DeJohnette - drums, piano and melodica
David Murray - tenor saxophone and bass clarinet
Arthur Blythe - alto saxophone
Peter Warren - double bass and cello

The picture above is of a later date. Notice the spectacles on this recently photographed grey haired Jack DeJohnette behind the Sonor drums and Sabian cymbals.

But he can still play in the Standards Trio touring this summer in Europe with the friends Keith Jarrett and Gary Peacock.

The first drummer, I specificly for the drummer alone attended a concert with, who showed me I would never be a class act drummer was the english former drummer with King Crimson - Carl Palmer from the classical/rock band at the beginning of the 1970´s: Emerson, Lake and Palmer.

Carl Palmer, not a genuin jazz drummer perhaps, but could he play those drums and cymbals. Man, I tell you - cross my heart and hope to die:
