this was yesterday but anyway I saw the Roy Hargrove quintet live here in Madrid (Clamores club) and what a concert it was, even if Roy itself didn't seem at the height of his powers, the group was so strong, so tight, the drummer so thrilling! I'm trying to get Roy's latest cd now.

On topic - The song with Sonny Rollins: The Sunny Side Of The Street. First song this morning, but then during breakfast and coffee:

Eliane Elias, who sings as well as playing the piano. On this album "Brazilian Classics", Capitol Records 1993, EE plays with brazilian and american musicians, who dig the brazilian samba as well as the bossa nova.

The Musicians: EE (piano, lead vocals) Ivan Linz (vocals), Marc Johnson/Eddie Gomez (double bass), Jim Beard (synthezisers), Peter Erskine/Jack DeJohnette/Luis Braga (drums) and Cafe´/Nana Vasconcelos/Portinho (percussion).

In the light from the candlelights closely cheek to cheek.

Friday morning, March 14 at 09:45 the three very old albums by the Norwegian saxophone player Jan Garbarek. The first album, is the quartet "Afric Pepperbird", ECM Records 1970 feat. JG (tenor and soprano saxophones), Terje Rypdal (guitars, bugle), Arild Andersen (double bass) and Jon Christensen (drums).

The second album, the quintet (I always listen to the three of them, never one of them alone) "SART", ECM Records 1971 with the same members as on the first album, only add Bobo Stenson (piano).

The third album, the small trio "Triptykon", ECM Records 1973 feat. Jan Garbarek (add flute and bass saxophone), Arild Andersen (double bass) and the Finnish Edward Vesela (drums).

That´s it folks for friday morning. Now I wish ya´ll the best sunny weekend, no matter where ya´ll live on this beautiful planet.

"Day Trip" by Pat Metheny.

Dear sir Corno Dolce

Is "Day Trip" a song by PM or an album, I just haven´t heard of yet?

My recollection on albums, I have ordered the latest album from NoneSuch is the second "Metheny-Mehldau" Quartet album feat. Larry Grenadier (double bass) and Jeff Ballard (drums).

Unless the title "Day Trip" is an album portraiting the Pat Metheny Trio feat. Christian McBride (double bass, el. bass) and Antonio Sanchez (drums). This trio, I accidently happend to watch 3-4 years ago or so from the french TV music channel Mezzo.

It doesn´t realy matter, I have some 10-11 albums with PM and the PMG in order.

One thing about some jazz singers and musicians, they really know how to
sing and play their gospel songs! I'm listening to a song called "Yesturday's
Prayer" and it sounds great!

On topic:

The Norwegian composer and double bass player Arild Andersen on his album "Kristin Lavransdatter", FXCD Records 1995. The true story about this girl from a distant village from the old history of Norway is about the love to a man, she can´t have. It could have been good old William Shakespeare, Kenneth Branagh acting as the young man in the Norwegian edition of Romeo and Julie.

The musicians: AA (double bass, percussion), Tore Brunborg (tenor, soprano and alto saxophones), Reider Skår (piano, keyboards) and Paolo Vinaccia (drums, percussion).

Off topic:

My dear friend and mentor of the sophisticated english language, Corno Dolce

The word "perspicacious" - Sounds like a word spoken by a magician on the stage during his show to impress the always mystified audience. Wow, you realy know how to pick them, like one Master Krummhorn - New sophiosticated english words for me to comprehend and implement in my own weak spoken and written english. Thank you dear sir.

So tell me about "Day trip", what songs do they play this trio. The program we videoed here during one night in september 2005 from the french TV channel Mezzo was recorded live, I believe at Marciac or Vienne.

It showed Pat first solo with this incredible custom built 42 string Picasso guitar. Then five other songs, I didn´t know of, at least I didn´t remember the names of the songs. I am not very good with titles of songs in generel, except for the ones we share as favourites - If I Could and Are You Going With Me or It´s For You - the older stuff.

So please dear sir tell me about the songs and the liner notes, PLEASE!

Udyret (the beast in english).

You are most welcome here at this fast evolving jazz thread.

Nice choice ;) the song "Cantaloupe Island" by Herbie Hancock. Have you listened to the group and the live double album called Parallel Realities - an invention of the american drummer Jack DeJohnette. The concert is also available on the amasing DVD.

The musicians: JD (drums), Dave Holland (double bass), Herbie Hancock (piano, keyboards) and Pat Metheny (guitars).

Four incredibly talented jazz musicians, known throughout the world from various albums and various groups going 32 years back for Pat Metheny. The rest of them 45 or more years.

She´ll be back some other time, if you´re lucky and then you´ll be prepared. You may even go to a concert abroad when your own education is finished and you´ll enrichend all of us, showing the one who carry the Polish biscuit is Le Chef.

Such a great song to listen to in the morning, first choice: The Sunny Side Of The Street. Thank you Mat!! ;)

At 6:36 AM on a foggy sunday morning, having forgotten to turn off the TV the night before falling at sleep, I awoke listening to some very loved notes. The TV was turned into the Mezzo channel, at 04:00 - Live from Tokyo, Japan at The Orchard Hall, March 30, 1996 :

The Standards Trio feat. Keith Jarrett (piano), Gary Peacock (double bass) and Jack DeJohnette (drums).

So right now playing the same album on my CD player "Live in Tokyo, 96´" released by the ECM Records 1998 - having my usual breakfast and the nessesary cups of coffee to remind me of a new day has arrived, thinking - life is great.
