Thanks, Gord. I'll be sure to give him a listen on you tube.com and get back to you!

Hi again Gord. Just finished sampling some Tubby Hayes off of you tube and he indeed was not only a great sax player, but played a mean flute as well {"In the Night"}. After listening to him only a couple of times, I would definitely include him on the roster of those musicians who passed away much too prematurely. Thanks again for the heads up! In line with this, are you familiar with the songs "Equinox" and "One and Four" by Coltrane? If you aren't, you can go to you tube and sample them. If you need me to provide the link, I shall. I'd really like to know what your opinion is of these 2 works. Look forward to hearing from you soon--hope all is well with you and your family. Steve

Jackie Mclean: "Omega" from Let Freedom Ring; Wayne Shorter: "Juju" and "Twelve More Bars To Go" from Juju and Lee Morgan: "Speedball" from The Blue Note Years.

hi steve, glad you liked tubby hayes, i knew you would, he plays in a style i know you favour. he is also a good vibes player. he made a couple of albums with some hardbop allstars in the early 60s in new york, roland kirk and james moody among them. i cant for the life of me remember what they were called, maybe somebody will let me know. i read somewhere they are very good. regarding the coltrane tracks, equinox is on the atlantic album, coltranes sound which just happens to be my favorite trane lp, and i just love that track. i am not too familiar with one and four, but i will be soon. all the best. gord

Yeah, Gord. I was just listening to "One and Four"[aka Mr. Day] and "Equinox" by Coltrane and Tyner on you tube. If you can access this, please listen. I know you'll love the playing of both on these songs. Please me know what you think after you listen to them; I can't wait to hear your opinions/feelings on them!

Hi Gord. I didn't realize you had already posted about "Equinox" and where it could be found--absolutely spot on! "One and Four"[ aka Mr Day ] may be found on the cd trane's blues. And I will safely guarantee that if you're into "Equinox"--as you obviously are--Mr Day will knock you out, in the persons of Tyner and Trane. Enjoy! As well, Gord, are you familiar with a song called "Omega" by Jackie Mclean? If you're not, try and get hold of a cd by his quartet named Let Freedom Ring. I tried finding it for you on u tube and last fm.com but was unsuccessful. Please let me know if you can track down this song; I'd really be interested in what you think of it. Look forward to hearing from you again. Cheers--Steve

hi steve, just been listening to one and four on you tube. i have to admit this is excellent, but most of coltranes music is superb creative jazz.i can see why you like this. i love all tranes jazz, especially the atlantic and prestige recordings. some of his impulse got a little far out, but i even like them.i am very fond of africa/brass and the village vanguard sessions. as for jackie mclean, i dont have any of his albums, i find this amazing, because he should be in every modern jazz collection. i will have to rectify this soon. what do you recommend? gord

HI gord. I'm so happy you got to sample that song by Coltrane. I too like his more "straight forward" period as opposed to the more abstract--almost free form--mode of playing. It is just too "spiritual" for me and very hard to follow. As far as Jackie Mclean is concerned, I would highly recommend his album called Let Freedom Ring, especially tracks # 1 and 4 [ hey, that's the name of the Trane song we were just discussing!]. Anyway, I am sorry I haven't yet learned how to indent to make a new paragraph when I post, but I hope all is well with you and your family. Looking forward to hearing from you again. p.s. You might be able to sample that Mclean work on you.tube.com. On last.fm I can only seem to play 30 second snippets of the tracks instead of whole albums. Cheers-- Steve
