Toots Theilmans _ One More For The Road features a whole list of guest artists such as Jamie Cullen, Oletea Adams etc. Standards such as Old Black Magic, stormy Weather and Come Rain or Come Shine plus three instumentals. Toots has played harmonica on such varied projects as Sesame Street to the soundtrack for Midnight Cowboy. Throughly enjoyable as much for the variety as his outstanding playing. Recommended.

Jack Teagarden Misery and the Blues. Well named as it certainly has a blues feel about it. The second best album he produced after T for Trombone (in my opinion). One of the truly great musicians of all time. Talent and soul in abundance.

Yes gord, I think it adds interest to the particular post what do you think?
I have just d/l my 2nd Cannonball Adderley CD "Nippon soul" I have yet to burn it but I have listened to Cannon @ the lighthouse which I found riveting it is the first CD that I have of these musicians (what have I been missing) would this fall into the bop category?
The first track in particular is a stunner "Sack O'Woe" starting with that strong riff with Piano and drums is hypnotic and keeps coming back as reinforcement. I am won over to this group:up:

Cannonball Aderley - Country Preacher. Live recording at Operation Breadbasket. Features Country Preacher as played in the film Play Misty For Me. Cannonball plays alto sax on this recording. This is the only downside as I prefer the version played on supranon sax as featured at Monterey Jazz festival in 1970

keith jarrett-organ- hymns spheres-ecm, not being a lover of the organ in jazz,but a big fan of jarrett, i wondered if i would like this. my verdict, this is some of the wildest and most intense music i have ever heard, in this loud and lengthy album. i didnt want it to end. gord

Why not a thread devoted to one artist or band, I realise that we do not have many jazz members but over time a dedicated thread might throw up some interesting facts, it may even entice some browsers to become members??

Thelonious Monk - Best of the Bluenote Years 15 tracks feauturing Monks distinctive style. Includes Round Midnight, generally regarded as a standard and one of the most recorded pieces of all time. Sorry I do not have a list of musicians but as Monk played alongside just about all the greats I believe you wiil find quite a few of them here.

louis armstrong-the complete town hall concert 1947-rca lp.this famous concert is so good it should be in everyones dixieland jazz collection. if that isnt enough to convince you,it also contains an on form BIG T. gord

you are probably right colin, threads on individual star jazzmen or types of jazz may help. we have to get more people involved in this jazz forum. most of the posting is being done by the same handful of folks. there are too many viewers and not enough participants. i have a few ideas on threads, maybe i will start one for vinyl lovers, i am one, and i know there are a lot more out there. anyway i hope some of you viewers will get involved and start to make a few postings. gord

Wonderful pairing of two great players who are happy to share the limelight. No egos getting in the way here. Eight tracks here which show off their individual and combined talents admirably. Some very laid back jazz.

shorty rogers-blues express -rca. this album probably shortys best, great arrangements played with drive by the usual west coast musicians. it should be in every collection of big band jazz. gord

hi colin,
i am a member of organissimo jazz forum. i go under the name duke jerumonk. i am not really a very active member having only made four or five postings,i much prefer this forum. the members of magle seem very friendly,helpful and just from what i have read here seem to know what they are talking about (not that organissimo members dont). both forums have very knowledgeable members,and make interesting reading. i only wish we had as many members as they do. maybe one day.
