Bob Brookmeyer "The Essential Collection. The final session with the Red Mitchell Sextet. (Red on Bass, Bob-v.tbn, Conte Condoli- tr, Zoot Sims-ten, Claude Williamson-p, and Stan Levey-dr,) is superb West Coast jazz.

Also Lena Horne/Sammy Davis "Double Play" a team I have not heard before.

@Colin - Esbjorn Svensson's music is 'edgy' but I find it very appealing for some reason. His untimely and tragic death was a great loss for the Jazz world. Enjoy "Viaticum"

Best,

CD I agree, the Viaticum CD was a little more avant-garde compared to Good morning Susie IMO but I am rapidly warming to this trio, as you say his death is a sad loss, have the other two formed another trio?
Btw the last track (What though the way may be long) on my d/l must be corrupt as there is a gap of about 6 min in the middle, Colin:cry:

Br. Colin,

AFAIK, they have not formed another trio. The drummer is working some gig with a well-known group - Which one? I have yet to hear about it from the coconut wireless. The bassist is one cool dude - I hope he hasn't given up on ever working with music again.

Just been listening to Toots Theilman and Oleta Adams. A very nice rendition of Stormy Weather. One of my favourites.

Django Reinhardt this afternoon, went to The Stables on Tuesday to see Martin Taylor's Spirit of Django, a very good guitarist. If you don't know him, go to his website and have a listen. It was good to see that Jack Emblow is still going strong at the age of eighty.

Totally cool!!! Maybe we might hear some interesting results from this new collaboration. It gladdens me to hear that the bassist has not given up - But its going to be a mighty hard slog for them to get such world-wide recognition that E.S.T. had. Maybe such a goal is too much to ask for - In any case, its up to the musicians how far they wish to go.

Thanx for scouting out the website.

Best of the best,
