Gustav Mahler's 5th and 9th Symphonies played by Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra under the direction of Riccardo Chailly. Both performances left me in tears. The orchestral playing is technically perfect and emotionally heart-throbbing.Chailly leads his forces in a masterful way.He sets perfect balance between emotional intensity and musical structure.

I love that piece of music. We used to sing the words to The Trout, it pictured up a lovely image.

Hi Ms. Margaret,

You're very welcome. There was a program on BBC a few years ago which featured the 5th movement as its signature melody just before and after the show. If my memory serves me, the show(an uproarious comedy) took place at a fictitious retirement facility somewhere in England. Might you be familiar with the show?

Humbly,

Hi Ms. Margaret, Hi Muza---

Thanx so much for the details. It was a real hoot, as was *As Time Goes By* and *Last Days Of The Summer Wine*. *Monarch Of The Glen* was a real favorite of mine, so much so that I bought the entire series on DVD.

Cheers,

"Last of The Summer Wine" is definately my favourite, I saw the first episode and have liked it since.

Beethoven - Symphonies Nos. 2,3 & 6.2 and 6 conducted by Bernard Haitink and 3rd by Furtwangler.Furtwangler's worst effort on Beethoven i have heard, lacking drama and tension and plain-faced (very very surprisingly) Haitink performances nice and enjoyable but nothing special.

Let's see, there was a Mozart Concerto for Flute and Harp with James Galway and the London S. O. (forgot the harpist's name, sorry,) A violin and piano work by Mozart with Isaac Stern, and excerpts from Mozart's Magic Flute set to animation. Yes, it was on tv (PBS)...
