Unusual candy from the past

How many of you ever enjoyed wax lips or waxed bottles with
tasty drinks inside? I'm talking about things that are a rarety
now days that we enjoyed as kids. What do you remember
having when you were a kid. I know that there are forum
members older than I and can remember further back with the
different fads in candy and snacks. Let me know something.
Remember the Marathon bar? Remember when even tupper
ware came to store this in? I can look back at things that
I will never find again. I used to find Marti Gra masks to wear
for halloween. Tell me of your fond memories.

We still have, and use Tupperware. My mom used to sell the stuff in my youth years.

There were little wax bottles, shaped like a coca-cola bottle, that had maybe two or three swallows of some fruit drink.

My favorite candy bar from those youth years was called "7 Up" ... it appeared for a couple years then vanished ... maybe because of name infringement rights with the beverage of the same name.

Bazooka Bubble Gum was chewed by everyone ... the wrapper inside contained a comic strip about "Joe Bazooka" or something like that. Memory fades me.

You can still find Bazooka bubble gum here in Kentucky. Double bubble
was another one. The candy that comes out like that now doesn't
even compare with the nostalgic. I will once in a while find the wax
bottles and get them now. I don't like what gum does to my teeth.
It edges them but not chewable wax bottles. How about horehound
candy. Here I can only find that in little cough drop like pieces.
What a rip off from what I remember. I wished they would bring back
the Marathon bar. It was made of carmel and shaped like a braid.

I remember Bazooka Joe... whenever I wear a turtleneck sweater (which is extremely rare lol) I think of him. :grin:

I don't chew gum anymore though.

I remember Pixy stix... almost pure sugar in a straw. Talk about bad for the teeth....

I remember pixy stix. You can still get them here. I used to get Dum
Dums at the doctor's office when I was a kid and cherry safety pops.
Now the doctors office gives these suckers out that taste nasty.
Remember your Tootsey roll pops? You can still find those and Ludins
wild cherry cough drops I just loved those. They were a lot better
than the ones you get now that get hot like Halls.

I led such a neglected life in Australia ... never heard of any of those lollies (as we call them). I do, however, remember reading Mad Magazine as a child (the American version and thinking "I wonder what Twinx (or perhaps Twinkies can't quite remember) taste like ..."

I will try to describe a twinkie for you contra. Ever had pound cake?
The twinkie taste like that with some kind of icing inside. They are
simply delicious and fattening.:grin: In California they take twinikes and
dip them in chocolate calling crocs.

I dont remember any special candy bars, but when I was young, one of the biggest fads was chewing gum - not even because of the actual gum, but because of little incerts that were found inside of the wrapper. Each gum had a different one, and girls and boys would collect them. Boys would collect the ones with soccer legends and race cars, and girls would collect little inserts from a gum called "Love is..." where there were different pictures of boy and a girl and what love is .

Then there were different games and competitions, like little booklets where you are supposed to put stickers that you found in gum, and kids would trade stickers and cards and stuff. Fun stuff.

Then we also had these candies, they were usually home made, sold by grandmas on the street - just basically sugar pops shaped like rousters and squirrels

Oh, and how could I forget - there was a Kinder Surprise - a chocolate egg with a gift inside. kids collected those too and traded them and stuff Fun times!

yeah - I never could figure out how Kinder Surprise ever got past the chocking hazard test our rampant government officials put on everything.

haha - true . although maybe it didnt? maybe it had a tiny warning that no one paid attention to.

I remember there used to be a chocolate bar I liked a lot with crisp rice in it. Don't remember what is was called, but I haven't seen it in yeeears. Shame; I could go for one right about now... :grin:

I remember that gum with the cards, Muza; here we had, of course, hockey players on them. :grin:

Mmm, twinkies... :grin:

Rojo - I remember the "rice bubble chocolate" and, also most vexingly, can't remember it's name!!

Is it kinda like the Crunch bar? although crunch has something other that rice, but its also crispy

Oh, wow ... I had forgotten about that one, Corno Dolce. Some had a cartoon figure head on them, and the bases came in a variety of colours.
In those days, we didn't recycle the plastic ... some people held onto them and possibly those became collectors items.

Believe it or not they still make the pez candy and dispencers. I find
a few once in a while here.

Hi Master Krummhorn,

The earliest Pez dispensers did indeed become collectors items and some have been auctioned off and netted the collector a huge sum of money.
