It's easy to make your own knitting needles by using a wooden dowel
cut in four equal lengths and using things from pencil erasers to big
beads, or larger for the ends. For the point use a pencil sharpener
but not the kind that you crank. That doesn't work. A crank pencil
sharpener will leave the point unusable. Use a hand pencil trimmer.
Now buy some yarn and start knitting! Before putting on the stoppers,
paint some varnish on them and let it dry. That will make the home
made knitting needles smooth and not snag your yarn.
