The do you remember thread for oldies

I was thinking about the toys that even my generation
used to play with. Remember the Say it Play it tape
recorders from Mattel? There was also some kind of
crazy toy that looked like pluming that sounded like
a kazoo. I also remember a barbie doll that talked
with a pull string. You won't find toys like that any
more. Everything now I consider just junk for kids
to play with. Not too many things had plastic on
them when I was a kid except dolls. I also remember
the Duncan yoyo that was popular back in the late
60s up to the 70s. Trolls got a nice comeback in
the late 80s. I remember playing with them during
the 60s too. I also had one of those little record
players that were no bigger than a show box.
Did anyone have one of those?

I had one of those little record players, you wound it up and it played "Early One Morning" and some other English folksy style song. I loved it.

Still remember Early one morning just as the sun was rising I heard a maiden ... etc etc etc.

The only wind up one I had took 78 rpm records and had triangular wooden needles

We had a radiogram with a triangular fibre stylus, when it started to wear after a few records dad would sharpen it with a small tool. I also recall one which played both 78s and LPs, the stylus cartridge could be turned over, having a 78 stylus one side and an LP one on the other.

I still have one of my parent's 78RPM 12", Glasgow Orpheus choir singing "All on an April Evening".

I had one of those little record players made by General
Electric from the 60s. I was also thinking about different
perfumes during the span of 1960s to the 80s. I was
thinking about this particular one that was a blue liquid
in a very small bottle. When you put it on, it left some
kind of shine to it. I don't remember the name of it
but it was out during the 60s. There was another one
that was out when I was in high school that I can't
find now. Even today the design on the bottle would
be called modern with blue and turquois stripes going
around the bottle. I don't know if it was an Estee'
Lauter perfume or another brand. Too bad I can't
find anymore.

Most of the toys I had required you to use your imagination to some extent in order to maximise the pleasure in useing them. Model soldiers model trains etc. Wonderful books like the Arthur Ramsome novels which gave you ideas for adventures which could realistically be had by a child (none of this capturing international bicycle thieves nonsense) Games which required you to follow rules and learn to interact. Construction of dens on the hillside or soapbox carts, often potentially lethal on the Welsh mountain roads. Good job I am still only twelve. Last one to jump the stream is a turnip.

Haha teddy, no need to ram that answer home. I went to buy a sheep once, it cost me too much, I think I had been fleeced. Still it was very good, so good in fact it was in mint sauce condition.

Am I the only one who thinks the police look too young to be out on their own? Is that why they go around in pairs? I almost expect to see them carrying a Thomas the Tank Engine lunch box. And why don't they wear proper helmets any more instead of those silly flat caps. At least the old uniforms made them look important, not to mention taller. I would have thought with the avereage height of men increasing it would be easier to find tall coppers. My grandfather was 6'2 and was not deemed to be particularly tall as a policeman.
