Interesting Rattle quote, however, I think such conductors as Karl Bohm, Hirouki Iwaki and Oleg Caetani would differ (all of whom have or had a very quiet conducting style). You don't need to jump around on the podium like Sir Simon Rattle to proove that you're musical "there"

If anyone has conducted a Beethoven performance, and then doesn't have to go to an osteopath, then there's something wrong.

I agree, I don't see the need to leap about when conducting, a bit off putting I would think.
