Nothing behind the trombones (occasionally percussion AND they deserve that). As to if they were offended by Strauss' comment ... they have paid no attention. I always felt the trombones to be the bullies of the orchestra, whilst, the angelic harpists were the ones most likely to jump into bed with you ... let's not go into my orchestral past!!
