Is winter too cold for you?

Is Winter too cold for you? Here in Kentucky the weather can get
really cold here. This past year was extremely cold here it got down
to just 2 degrees and a lot of pipes busted! How I wished I was in
the tropics. Eight inches of snow on the ground and ice on top made
it bad to walk anywhere. When the later part of march arrived I breathed
a sigh of relief as the temperatures climbed up into the 80's a little each
day. I know some of you from Demark, northen USA, and Canada froze.
Even though during the summer it got up to 105, I at least was able to
go somewhere without freezing my face off and my fingers. Let me
know what you guys deal with during the winter months.:grin:

As funny as it may sound, all of my harshest winters were ... in the summer. It gets really cold here during the summer season.
During winter however, while it is brisk and chilly - its very very nice and occasionally we are spoiled by a few days of unexpected summer (and by summer here i mean the normal summer, not our summer that I was describing above )

We are shivering and freezing over at night here in the southwest deserts of Arizona.
High today was 43 - went down to 28 last night - but dry as a bone.

Southwestern Poland is not too cold this year. So far the temperature went down to -3°C at night, which is not much. We used to have temperatures like -10°C or -15°C. And we don't even have snow this year. I guess the only one sign it's winter is that that roads are slippery...

Actually, besides the two 40 cm dumps of snow we've had, it's been nice. Not too cold. I hate it when we get -25 C temperatures. But that may be yet to come; we're only in December.

Judy, where I live winter is never anything more than chilly. Seldom gets to 5 celcius (not sure that is in farenheit), but it's well above freezing.

For those interested, 4 degrees C = 41 degrees F. It must be different to celebrate Christmas with it being so warm (hot) ... somehow that season has been stereotyped into being cold, snowy and freezing temperatures. I guess it's all relative to where one lives.

Temperatures in Denmark above zero, now snow, no winds - more or less a typical danish winters day - cloudy. Normal temp. for a new year, but the amount of snow, my GOD!!! It's been snowing regularly, sometimes five inches or fifteen inches and we're well covered, thank you! The snow bank where I clear the driveway if now well above six feet in height, and this is the first of January. You know you've got too much snow when the space delineating driveway and street becomes narrower and narrower, and that's what I'm observing right now as more snow is falling on Maine, tonight. Beautiful, mind you, but if you don't belong in this climatic culture of mine, how would you like to begin your day, almost every day (these days) shoveling snow for an hour or so. There's an expression "nordic" folks here will acknowledge: "We're snowed in." I was snowed in yesterday and I'm snowed in tonight.:crazy:

Interesting thing about Christmas and cold ... I'm almost certain (though can't proove it) that the "sheperds were NOT tending their flocks by night in the middle of winter" they would have been in stables. I guess the Australia way of Christmas is probably more logical?

Not been too bad here in the uk, cold and slightly breezy. But we have been threatened with snow tomorrow, I shiver just at the thought of it. Apparently the same temperature during the day as in the night, 3 degrees C. That is cold enough for me, we luckily where I am don't get a lot of snow, and it doesn't last.

Roll on summer though.

True! The huge snow drifts, the enormous snow banks, the thick cover of powdered snow, so thick that our little Bombardier snowmobile (model 1965) struggled to emerge and glide over the snow surface. One significant difference, though, in that we weren't the ones doing the heaving snow clearing. It took me about two hours today to clear the driveway and a roof. By the way, I cleared that roof about six days ago. When I went back this afternoon it had a good two to three feet of new snow on it. But my grandchild might enjoy the resulting snow banks. One of them is now more than eight-feet high.

Ouled Nails - I couldn´t help smiling a bit, having the image of you to my inner eye, when reading about your shoveling snow up to six feet high every morning and evening in Maine, USA, referring to "nordic" folks "We´re snowed in".

Nature is still so far one of the very few things we as people on this planet do not controle. So please alowe me to refer you to the Monty Pyton song: "Always look at the bright sides of life", when you´re in the middle of that heavy physical demanding activity shoveling snow (LOL). Btw. Typical male job in a marriage.

Best of luck to you on a dayly snowing basis , from one of the "nordic" folks in Denmark, where we have no snow or temperatures below zero at the moment.

Wow! I had to put up with 2 degree weather last night and the water in my
house froze. I even found ice in my toilet! I woke up and my two cats
were in the bed with me under the covers. They are actually longhaired
cats. That is a lot of fur. So I enjoyed two fur coats with the cats still
in them!:grin: Now I have no water right now unless I go and buy some!
It's still only thirty for a high.

Whoah Ms. Judy,

You found ice in the toilet? I hope that the jerk you have for a landlord doesn't hold you responsible for any pipes that will burst when the water inside them freezes - Sheeesh! You're in a pickle, ma'am.

Since you seem to have good friends at the Church where you visit frequently, why not ask them to help you file a citizen's complaint with the local Sheriff's office against that Scrooge of a landlord.

I cannot bear to read about the suffering you are going through. Hopefully, the Pastor at that Church will have understanding to help you out if the landlord tries to evict you because of a citizen's complaint against him.

Don't worry Corno! Everything will be all right. But for now I still need to
buy some water somewhere. I just hope it warms up soon. As soon as
I told him this morning, he went and turned off the water so that the
pipes won't bust. He is doing what he can. I took care of the iced up
toilet. I boiled some water and poured it into the ice and melted it.

Holy Cow, no water now, either? I agree with Corno Dolce - that landlord needs to be arrested for not providing the basic necessities of life, like water and proper heating for the tenants he collects rent from. That is blasphemous action, not to mention fraudulent, of the landlord ... how does that moron get away with this?
