I was getting worried about you Mike I thought you may have fallen off, it's funny how your mind stays young compared to the body perhaps one day they will create humans so your brain can be transplanted in a new body.
I said to her indoors that I can still appreciate a pretty girl but.... hey great to be out of the dog house again.

I had the hypodermic in the eye for my previous cataract which has put me off having the other done, it didn't hurt, just the sight of it approaching; however one of the residents here had hers done a few weeks back - no hypodermic! So maybe I'll take the chance.

For mine they used a process called Phacoemulsification ... no hypodermic needle, just a small incision. I was fully awake during the procedure although I was given a sedative intravenously about 30 minutes before the procedure. I was able to hear the conversation between the surgeon and the anesthesiologist (who is his wife) and could chat with him as the procedure took place. Went to an out-patient facility locally. In at 6:30am - out by 8:00am.

Oooo! I saw "Is anyone there????" and thought I haven't been here for a while,
but, but, I don't have any reasons like yours.
You're making it look easy, but surgery is surgery and I hope you are healing.

I am doing fine. Vision restored to 20/20 in the right eye - very anxious to get the left eye done, but will have to wait until late October.

It's a whole new world out there in true color, especially at night where the biggest difference in vision is noticed at least for me.

Cant wait to have mine done, but ~I will almost certainly have to as they are rationing operations. Unless you are an illegal immigrant with a human rights lawyer in which case it will be done immediately

My doctor (ophthalmologist) ordered the surgery - set the date/time at the out patient facility ... Medicare picked up the tab. I guess I don't understand socialized medicine that well ... here, the doctor orders it to be done, then it is scheduled and over with in a matter of weeks.

You write something and someone replies. You may even get a sensible answer. Also we love to hear music posted by members. Good luck

Hullo, yes, I'm still around. Look in now and then. Sorry I haven't posted in a while. But I am glad the site is still here, a bit like an old friend isn't it.

Glad to see you still enjoying this site :). We are in our 12th year of operation!

The atmosphere on MIMF has always been like "an old friend" for me as well. It was the first music discussion forum I ever joined. Got to know its owner and have met him and his wife as my wife and I were his house guests while we were on holiday in Denmark. Very gracious people.

Yes I would agree that MIMF is perhaps the most friendly music forum perhaps because the members are of an older age group.

Watch that "older" stuff, will ya?.

But hey, I'm 68 and proud of it ... not older, not wiser, but more refined. And of course much much happier at my new church position - larger congregation, larger organ, larger choir (50 voices) and 4 minutes from home.

Sounds like a good move Lars.

It is, Mike. A total breath of fresh air and ZERO church politics unlike the last parish I served. I am treated with far greater respect and people constantly complement me on my playing skills ... especially the new pastor that we will vote on this weekend.

The only reason I waited so long to move is that this new position did not com about until July of this year, and then only because the organist wanted to retire while she was at the top of her game. I had been watching this parish for an opening for about 3 years ... finally it surfaced ... applied (one of 4 applicants, the other three were music major doctoral students at the local university).

Not a pipe organ though, although for what it is (AOB - Associated Organ Builders, Auburn, WA) there are some stops that even defy myself to tell the difference between the actual wind blown pipe and the sound emitting from speakers. There is one speaker for every 6 notes of each stop ... so there are close to 100 speakers for this installation. The low end is quite powerful as well ... the bigger 16's and and the 32 pedal stops shake the floor.

Couple that with almost 2 seconds of natural reverb makes for an ideal setting. With the exception of the choir area the rest of the church has no carpet whatsoever.

I am quite elated for this new position - It's everything I've ever wanted for a church position, and more ... I am able to play the pieces I couldn't do before because of no piston/combination action in the former church. Now I have 30 generals and 18 divisionals per manual and pedal spread across 3 memory banks, which still leaves another three memory banks for visiting organists.

Lars I know next to nothing about Organs, what is a memory bank?
I have in my mind some type of hard drive which will store a pedal or chord sequence that you play and will then play it automatically at the pull of a stop or flick of a switch when ever you choose.

Colin,

A memory bank is a circuit card that holds the various settings that the organist chooses to assign to varied numbered pistons below the keyboards.
I can select General 1 piston and have the system memorize which stops I saved for that one piston. The next time I push General 1, those stops that I had saved will turn on. This organ has 6 memory banks ... allowing 6 different organists to save their settings just for themselves ... other players can still use them but cannot re program them or change them without the proper key. I have reserved Memories #3, #5 and #6 for my use on this organ, each with its individual lock which requires a physical key to make changes. One individual key for each memory is required.
