Criminal Punishment - Your Thoughts

CD I didn't know you did impressions!

Seriously punisment should punish. Whatever makes people feel punished will work on them whether it is curtiling their freedom, physical punishment or being degraded in front of the public. Different punishments will work for different people. The main thing is to keep the scum away frpm decent people and give them a hard enough time so they do not do it again.

When a child takes to the path of criminality how much blame should be taken by: The Parents, the Schools, Society ??

Recalling GrandDame Margaret's observation I find that if the parents themselves were miscreants and lived unstructured lives, how in the world do they have any possibility of doing the same for the kids? Schools and Society are the last resort!!!

Parents responsibility as I see it. Why should schools be given the responsibility of providing discipline for some feral-trailer-trash parent who's too busy breeding with ramdom casuals and not looking after ensuring a decent upbrinding?

Schools have a hard enough time ensuring that their students come out the other end able to write, read and comprehend simple English.

I say that there is NOTHING wrong with a child being put over its mother's/father's knee and given a firm but not brutal spank on the bottom. Unfortunately, as our politicians and lawmakers are friggin limp-wristed-mamby-pamby populists, we have legislated that this sort of discipline is illegal.

Interesting observation David the same thing here (our anti smacking law) I wonder how many other countries have the same type of laws, last year we convicted a Father because after telling his young son not to ride his bike on the road the boy did just that, the Father ran and brought him back and then gave him a flick on the ear a woman saw this and reported him result a prosecution. is it just coincidence that countries seem to bring these laws in almost at the same time, J.H.C. in Conspiracy mode

Well, Colin, in that case I think I agree. The ONLY place a firm, but not brutal, slap should happen is on the backside. Hitting a kid over the head is most definitely NOT ON.

In this country the kids have "human rights" and no one can touch the. Therefore they know they can get away with murder. The bleeding heart liberals are taking control away from parents and not reinforcing it when they are away from home. Teachers are not only regularly assulted but also regularly accused of assult by pupils resulting in the teacher being arrested and maybe waiting a year on suspension while the case is being proved vexatious. Children spend the vast majority of their time in the home enviroment and therefore this is were the behaviour paterns are set. School should reinforce what has already been taught before they enter society. Give control back to the parents not some wishy washy do gooder who thinks children should be able to do anything they like because they are expressing themselves.

David it was not a slap it was a Flick, as when you flick your middle finger off your thumb it does hurt but no damage, I remember one of our teachers used to give what was called a "thick ear" it did me no harm:crazy::crazy::crazy:, but sure as hell I made sure I did not get it again

I was not referring to any countries in particular I just wondered which countries had similar laws which prosecute a Farther for disciplining his son in the way I related.
Animals correct their young by action. It depends where you want to draw the line.
