What particularly did you enjoy about Gergiev's Nutcracker?

Strange indeed.I particularly dislike the Gergiev version.It is too fast for my tastes.I like Jansons and Previn way better.
I think perhaps the crisp pace is one of the things I like most about it. His interpretation is conceptually clear and is very revealing of the intent of the music, with less focus on the frilliness and a bit more of a serious/mature tone. There is a visceral profundity to the music that I've not found elsewhere. Sure, no one could dance easily to it, but this was intended as a more symphonic iteration.
I'm also a fan of Norrington's Beethoven, if that gives you an idea of my tastes...
