What music are you listening to?

Hi intet-at-tabe,
46 summers ago I first saw light as a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, so, now you and many others know how *ancient* I am :grin::grin:

I must confess that I don't have every PM recording but I still dig his musicianship very much. Ron Carter and Brian Bromberg are two favs of mine - Man, do they know how to swing on the Double Bass!!!!!!!:up::up::up::up::up::up:

JSBach and Jazz is my lifelong infatuation.

Humbly and Respectfully,

Corno Dolce

Hi again Corno Dolce, grateful you took my advice seriously about: Do not be a stranger:banana:

The thing about Wiki is, whenever I have been there - now with the Autoharp and the Synclavier after receiving your post. There are so many new words to me, like sampler, which I pressed only to find more new words and so on and so forth, like a completely new study - somewhat confusing, reminding me of my age, much older than you Corno Dolce (LOL):ut:. But I got a much better understanding of what a Synclavier really is, and I guess the first picture (the telephone switch board, I suggested), was the first model of a Synclavier, which is just another kind of syntheziser. Lyle Mays have to live in a huge house to keep all these modern machines together.

I did not know of Brian Bromberg (double bass, el. bass) until you told me of him. Perhaps the new John Patitucci, so I googled him. It seems he was nominated to a Grammy, which speaks for itself.

Good old pipe-smoking Ron Carter, former years on end member of The MILES DAVIS faboulos Quintet (feat. H. Hancock/W. Shorter and the late T. Williams). I don´t know what anyone could possibly add about this master and gentleman on the double bass, except always realise that there are many extremely well playing double bass players in the past as well as today, but only one Ron Carter - and I don´t mean because he smokes, or probably smoked in the past tense, the curved pipe :)!!

Like you Corno Dolce, I don´t have all PM albums either, in fact I don´t know how many he has made all together, but it is okay. My former mentor/nurse/Godson - upstart of a young man Peter in his late twenties, has bought or acchieved from other sources more than 300 CD´s in the past years for me - like he said: "You need education on jazz". I had him finally crawl on his all four, while beating him senseless in chess every time we played for the past 5 months, able to watch TV at the same time and do the dishes after dinner with one hand, waiting patiently for his next draw. It did not exactly seem to do him good. But it seemed to make him understand RESPECT FOR THE ELDER, like in Japan :cool:

Nice to know you´re a fan of Johan Sebastian Bach and classical music, though I am a completely empty book on Bach. But then you already know. The name Bach tell me more of an old movie with the brite Duddley More.

The picture to the left of your posts, is this a picture of you personally or just a picture you found elsewhere, perhaps to impress the other gender

Time for lunch, see you later Corno Dolce,
intet-at-tabe

For Corno Dolce, Mat, our host Frederik, judy tooley et.al.

If you know about swing - including another great double bass player, who left us much to early:

"The Pablo All-Stars Jam, Montreux `77" recorded July 14. 1977 at the Montreux Jazz Festival, by Pablo Records, remastered by Fantasy Records 1989/97.

Oscar Peterson (piano), Clark Terry (trumpet, flugelhorn), Ronnie Scott (tenor saxophone), Milt Jackson (vibes), Joe Pass (guitar), NHØP (double bass) and Bobby Durham (drums).

Ronnie Scott, who at the time had the most famous and well managed jazz club in the world in "Swinging" London, England. Not often in his career on the tenor saxophone to be with such esteemed gentlemen and swinging musicians. Listen to Clark Terry´s trumpet as well.

It´s called a quartet, a quintet, a sextet. What is the name, when there are seven musicians?

Enjoy,
intet-at-tabe

Hi intet-at-tabe,

*Respect for the elder* - what many youths lack today but I'll cut them some slack :grin::grin:

Yep, good ole NHØP - what a great Bassist - He is sorely missed. Seven players equals a Septet.

Thats quite a collection of CD's you have there sir. Golly gee, are they all Jazz? Way cool :cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:

My avatar(picture)is Charles Tournemire, a legendary organist/composer whose music is still so sadly neglected. He reposed in 1939 under *mysterious circumstances* but thats not why I am attracted to his music.

His mastery of improvisation and the terrific outpouring of music for Organ from his pen suffices for me to respect his artistry just as much as JSBach. Of course, then there is also Max Reger and his masterworks for organ. Many say he is the successor to JSBach in organ music. No! There is only one JSBach just as there is only one Max Reger or Charles Tournemire.

JSBach used the melodies of the Lutheran Chorales in his organ music - Charles Tournemire used the melodies of Gregorian Chant in his organ music. Since I play the organ, it was only natural to pair Bach and Tournemires music even though they are so totally different in their musical language. Tournemire used *jazz-like* harmonies and in some works he incorporated Hindu melodies. He probably came into contact with them at the Paris Exhibition in the year 18?? Oh well, I forgot.

Whew! Now I have yakked long enough in this thread posting.

Cheers,

Corno Dolce

Corno Dolce - I saw your entry from December 16, 2007 about "The Out-Of-Towners" by The Standards Trio - Jarrett/Peacock/DeJohnette.

There is a new double CD out from www.ecm.com - recorded in 2001 titled "My foolish heart" also a well known jazz standard.

Beside this I have printed this link below, should you be interested in a deep research about Keith Jarrett - A pianist and his musical universe:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Jarrett

I will write you back later to give some short answers to your last post directed to me.

Short posts are unfortunately a part of my disability sine 1999, where I became the innocent victim of brutal violence on a street, without any whatsoever prior confrontation or communication with the three guys, who jumped me, mugged me, stole my car and briefcase with my masterplanner, money and identity papers and left me for dead in a ditch, suffering from brain haemorrhage, paralized and a dozen other injures, mostly a broken jaw, ribs, my left arm and a face, which would have been good as a understudy for Charles Laughton in the old black and white movie "The Hunchback from Notre Dame" etc.etc.

The worst injurie though was, I completely lost the cabability of speaking, to be able to understand what people said to me (it sounded like mud or blur), and I could not form or put words or sentences together verbally or in writing in my own language danish. That´s why Peter my friend and nurse and a speak pedagog/therapist have helped me intensely since 2002-2007 (december).

I hope you´re doing good. You embraced me wisely and gently with your knowledge about our common jazz guitarist, the phenomenon Pat Metheny, something I will remember for a long time and keep even longer in my heart.

I hope the weekend becomes you.

Best regards,
intet-at-tabe

Hello intet-at-tabe,

I became very despondent when I read about you had become another victim of random, unprovoked violence. Did the Politi ever catch the perpetrators? I have this feeling that the Politi are clueless in your case. I pray that one day you will be healed of all your impediments that challenge you these days.

Back on topic: I have most if not all of Keith Jarrett recordings and am listening to right now the "out-of-towners" CD.

I wish you all the best and that your weekend will be to your satisfaction. Do you live in Esbjerg or Thisted, Denmark?

Godt nyt år och med venlige hilsen,

Corno Dolce

Hi Corno Dolce (on a recovering morning after lots of good food, friends and a lot of Beatles songs during last night), finally back to the music, and here I had you figured out to be foreign? But you speak danish, great and better you have almost all Keith Jarrett, great.

You asked about the 300 CD´s in a former post. It was a mixture of albums, I had put on a list also on rock, blues and classical music, like "Bolero" by Ravel. The list had grown quite long over the years, and during these years where i dropped out of society and the life I´ve had before was just a memory. The only thing that mattered (because there were no options for me) was to fight to get well again. So during the first two years I had become quite a rich man, doing nothing for society, now having a pension. So at one time Peter began buying some of these albums, and added up it came to 312 albums in all, until I was ready to take over myself in late 2007.

The expression "You need education on jazz", was a sarcastic joke on my behalf made by Peter. Peter knew almost nothing about jazz before except for "Isn´t there a guy called Luis Armstrong"? You see Corno Dolce a hopeless case, when he began here as night watch in 2002 and with my oldest and closest friend, the two of them basicly have run my life for years towards the public Denmark, also paying for rent, insurence policies, child support, membership of Amnesty International, food, plans- and scedules for personal helpers 24/7, you don´t know the drill (thank God). But the bills keep coming, though I was unable to intellectually act on public letters or anything else in writing. It´s called FRIENDS FOR LIFE, I love Peter like had he been my own son, and I have given him and young people in general a lot of slack.

He had just started his education to be a (pleje og sundheds assistent) social worker, so it fitted him well, to come here at 8 P.M. help me and do his homework here at night. Also he was payed for this service. He and common friends and especially my oldest friend from we both were nine years of age his father and friends in generel of the both of us, changed sitting here at my home in the beginning during the nights, chance dipers, help me to a bath etc. etc. Very humiliating, but nessesary.

The only way any one can heal from an experience like mine, that stole mostly 7-8 years of my life until I was back "on the road again", a lot wiser than before and not so eager about economical success in life, is to use humor as often as possible. Being a jazz/rock/blues music lover, the music IMHO was part of the whole healing process.

Since the assault in 1999 happened abroad, it complicated everything in the beginning. The people who forund me and called for medical help, I would assume (I wish I knew their names, so I could thank them) couldn´t find any identity papers, and like I said, I couldn´t understand danish nor french (language in parts of Belgium) or respond at all or give the police any info they could use. But I have healed both physical and mentally, and whatever anger, bitterness or hatred I might have had in 1999-2002, it´s gone. The shortest way to selfdestruction are hostile emotions about something you can´t change anyway.

How do you like the beautiful 6th number on "The Out-Of-Towners" album "It´s all in the game" solo-piano? What a final presentation for the whole album.

See you and stay safe.

Best regards,
intet-at-tabe

Back at you Corno Dolce (LMAO).

Swedish then. Enemy´s of Denmark in soccer since the days of the seven year war between our two countries. You guys stole Skåne from us, like the quallification in soccer last year, when "the fool on he hill" a danish hooligan, entered the field in PARKEN and attacked the reffery.

About my entry on Ron Carter today. So who do you really call telepathic???;):)

I am getting there with the short posts, whatch me.

Have a great day!!

Best regards,

Hi intet-at-tabe,

Got your PM. I still can't understand how I have lived before *internet for the masses*. Had an IBM in 1985 and then successive models until 2005 which is when I switched over to MAC and have never regretted it.

Cheers,

Corno Dolce
