I'm not a huge Jazz fan, prefer the early stuff (Ellington). Speaking of which, I did listen to James Morrison's quartet broadcast last night. A tribute to Duke Ellington, with the world's biggest Jazz orchestra ... actually it was the Sydney Symphony.

John Morrison (the drummer) mentioned how wonderful it was (the quartet was in the middle of the orchestra and surrounded by a sea of strings). I listened with rapt attention to the whole concert it was a blast.

Thought of your Corno Dolce. Did anyone see this live?

CT, Have you heard much of Stan Kenton (big band) and the MJQ??
Kenton was very avant-garde in his day [40-50s] great Reed and Brass section with players that were famous in their own right, and the MJQ “Modern Jazz Quartet” still a favourite of mine were the nearest you would get to a classical Quartet in the way they played and interacted around a melody or theme, those were the days:cool:

Aloha sunwaiter,

Tbh, its only been since late summer that I've started listening to the Esbjörn Svensson Trio. I cant say that I like all of their music but there are some tracks that are very soulful.

Cheerio,
