CT64,

For the past three days I've been immersing myself in the artistry of McCoy Tyner and I now see him as equal to the brilliance of Keith Jarrett. For me JSBach and Tournemire are the two organ greats I can't be without, so are Jarrett and Tyner the two Jazz greats.

Cheers,

CD :):):)

Dear sir´s Corno Dolce and Mat :tiphat::clap::banana::trp::trp::trp::trp:

I have missed you guys. Are you both OKAY?? Talking as a new husband again and friend of yours, dear sir´s.

After responding to Mat on a 3 weeks old PM, I began reading way back on your posts, and suddenly you sir Corno Dolce entered this great news from you on your admiration on the McCoy Tyner percussion piano - Wow!!, sir. Such great posts between the two of you, like this one for our Aussie friend, CT64.

Only I wish you guys would talk more specificly about jazz piano technigues - debate guys, an area where I can only learn from the both of you, but you know me, I am always willing and from such two keyboardians - Please guys!!

Mat, thank you for the suggestion on the latest Cassandra Wilson album "Loverly".

Hi Intet,

Congrats on tying the knot and a wonderful time in Italy. Yes, McCoy Tyner was a staple back in the '80s. So, for 15 years I haven't really listened to his artistry. Now I'm so into Tyner and Jarrett as trio settings.

sir Corno Dolce :tiphat::clap::banana::trp:

Thanks mate :tiphat: You would know better than most about the "Two For Tango" :tiphat: about how LOVE towards another person even in the fifties, since your time only a lad at fourty-middle-something, is not more than a couple of months ahead.

In my case completely trustful to the saying, I know the third time is always the lucky time.

What I meant sir Corno Dolce was, since you DO have a Steinway parked in your living room, perhaps you could bring some unorthorised info on the piano, as you hear and would play it from McCoy Tyner - when speaking of percussion piano?

Did you know that M. Tyner was the favourite pianist of the GIANT on the tenor saxophone John Coltrane?

Btw. I found an album in Italy "Renee Olstead", the name of the album and the vocalist with the bassist Brian Bromberg. HE REALY is a Ron Carter substiutute. You were right. Salute!!

On topic:

Renee Olstead on her album with the same name. AWESOME JAZZ BIG BAND MUSIC and some groovy blues.

Intet,

Yes, Coltrane and Tyner were really tight for a few years - a really groundbreaking crew imho. Much as I would like to, I find it impossible to replicate completely Tyner's style - It is just so original. Besides, I am of the conviction that the hallmark of a true musician is he/she having their own unique style/voice - not a copy of another musician's style/voice.

ps. Ron Carter and Brian Bromberg are at the forefront of Double Bass use in Jazz.

Intet,

Is this the one where the opening song is Summertime by Gershiwn?

Right on, sir Corno Dolce :tiphat:

"Summertime", by Gershwin and then 11 other songs, like "Someone To Watch Over Me" and "What A Difference A Day Makes", finishing with "Sentimental Journey".

The album was released by Reprise Records in 2004, and there are many well known jazz musicians on the album, besides Brian Bromberg who plays an incredible double bass on the no. 7 song "Meet Me Midnight".

I realy think Renee Olstead has a great voice for jazz.

On topic for my dear Polish friend and pianist as well, Mat:

Diana Krall on the album "The Best Of DK", by Verve Records 2007. She has Christian McBride, Ben Wolfe and John Clayton on the basses and Peter Erskine, Jeff Hamilton and Lewis Nash on the drums plus Russell Malone, D. Cyammi and Romero Labambo on various guitars on this album, not her regular trio.
