Don Quixote from Richard Strauss.

...Richard Strauss was a master orchestrator and it always amazes me all the different colors he called for in his scores. ...
Yes Corno Dolce, the very good simple example of what you’re writing is the Alpensymphonie. Living in Switzerland and going often in the Alps, I know what it means the colourful of his orchestration.

None, but I listened to Music For 18 Musicians yesterday. And I'll listen to Elektronische Musik later today.

Bach toccatas and fugues, played by Simon Preston on the way to work this morning. Very soothing – creates a bubble of peace amid the morning traffic.

Karlheinz Stockhausen - Elektronische Musik

After that finishes, I'll probably throw on Zorn's Mysterium.

Currently listening to Maria Callas singing various arias on a tv special, including the one that the singer sings badly in the movie Citizen Kane (forgotten the name of it.) Needless to say, Callas does a much, much better rendition of it.

I'm trying to listen as much as possible to Webern's string quartet to give me some chance of working out where all the notes go when rehearsing tomorrow!

Also, lots of generic playlists at www.classical.com whilst pottering around the house to try and de-webernise when reaching states of madness!
