I'm listening to Violin Concerto by Mieczysław Karłowicz. The soloist is Konstanty Kulka accompanied by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Kazimierz Kord. Marvellous piece.

And on a different note:

I have mentioned to Lars that we've been having some difficulties with the use of word philharmoniker. He fixed it immediately.
It shouldn't be replaced with *** anymore.

Thanks, Lars :)

Variations on Dives and Lazarus by Vaughan-Williams.

CD, Are you familiar with--as I'm quite sure you are--RVW'S lovely and haunting Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis? Although I am not a religious person by any means, this spiritual work never fails to send shivers down my spine whenever I listen to it. This also sometimes happens to me when I listen to Bach as well, especially some of his Brandenburg Concertos or Where Sheep May Safely Graze.

@BrotherSteve,

You bet I am familiar with his work on the "Tallis Theme" - He used lots of melodies which are found in older Hymnbooks of the Anglican Church. Among other things, "Dives and Lazarus" is based on the tune "Kingsfold" and is attributed to Lucy Broadwood having written it. And it gets me turning on the "waterworks" everytime...Try listening to his "Songs of Travel" for Bass/Baritone and piano with words by Robert Louis Stevenson. The great BassBaritone singer Bryn Terfel made a magnificent recording on them.
