It was a wonderful night here - 84° at 9:15pm for the 30 minute show that the city puts on (privately funded). They shoot fireworks from a hill on the far west side of town. Although fireworks are legal to sell in this city and county, they are illegal to use within city limits or in the county areas (which surround the city). Makes perfect sense doesn't it? Sell stuff that cannot be used unless one travels several hundred miles to where it isn't prohibited.

Makes sense to me. The sale and possession are regulated under state law; setting them off is subject to local ordinance.
"Even though Arizona law allows the sale of permissible fireworks, individual cities are able to prohibit their use, and counties can decide to place limits on use in unincorporated areas during periods when wildfire risk is elevated.
Tucson.
"Tucson is one city that has chosen to make setting off fireworks illegal. The city's law, passed on November 23, 2010, states that the use of fireworks within the city is prohibited."

Around November the 5th (Bonfire Night) there are not too many regulations apart from not letting off fireworks in the street, but at other times of year it is mainly about when you can let them off i.e. not after 10.30 pm without a permit. I have been in Catalonia, Spain during August when everyone goes mad and fireworks are going off well into the early hours. Roadside stalls appear everywhere selling them. It is a pyrotechnics delight.

They have weekly firework displays here in the summer, they set them off from a barge a few hundred yards off shore so they are visible from the beach and cliffs, I can hear them most weeks depending to some extent on the wind strength and direction, it's a bit over 2 miles from here, can't see them though, too many buildings in the way!

I'm reminded of the spoof letter purported to be written by John Cleese a few years back in the days of the Bush administration, I remember that a number of USA members of a forum I was on at the time had a severe sense of humour loss over it

I don't wana be party pooper but I just heard that the USA has defaulted on its loan repayments for the second time? most countries seem to borrow for what they want and not what they need, this can not result in a happy ending.

And in the meantime, our roads are crumbling, bridges falling apart, interstate highways full of potholes ... and they (the politicians) say 'there ain't no money' ... but we have trillions to send to help other countries, some of which actually hate the US for interfering.
Locally the immigration issues are teeming ... illegals are crossing our borders and we are going to give them aid, and spend billions on this effort ... meanwhile, our entire infrastructure is falling to pieces because ... yup, you guessed, "there ain't no money!" :lol:
If their ain't no money, then where is this aid money coming from? We have starving and homeless American citizens who can't get any financial help, because there ain't no money ... but there is money ... but not for our own citizens ... that's immoral - and we, the taxpayers, are paying these dooshbags salaries who keep saying "there ain't no money", yet they themselves vote themselves 39% raises, which the taxpayer has no say in whatsoever, except at the polls every four years.
Sorry for the rant ... but this country I live in makes me sick to my stomach ... it could be so much better.

That is what Lars is on about,I wager it is the same in most so called civilized countries, who do we owe this money to? what would happen if we all defaulted.
In NZ we are now aghast at out child poverty which = no flat screen TV, only 1 Car, going to school hungry because parents spend the child benefit on booze or drugs or gambling. I better go and listen to some music.

Foreign aid is a bone of contention over here as well. Billions go abroad and yet we cannot spend money on the flooding which recked peoples health and livelihoods last Winter. India does not need our money, they have their own space program. Countries which promote terrorism should not have our money. Meanwhile the motorist is fleeced with fuel tax, road tax, tax and vat on car purchases, tax and vat on car repairs and our roads are some of the worst in Europe. Good game.

but if you buy a smaller car with a diesel engine you will escape a heck of a lot of that tax, road tax £30 or less, fuel consumption in excess of 60MPG, smaller cars are cheaper so less tax to buy, and car repairs usually less frequent & lower than most fancy German gas guzzlers - look at the reliability ratings some time.
Your motoring costs more because you are not prepared to economise nor compromise, you must have something bigger and more powerful or with a "NAME". The excuses about being able to accelerate out of trouble don't wash with me; as long as you are prepared to treat every other road user as a complete moron then you should rarely, if ever, get into trouble in the first place. The local paper has front page splashes of motoring accidents, the majority of them involve "big name" cars going too fast or too drunk.

Oh Mike :shake: .............. its driver not the car. I sat behind a small car for over 4km and it was doing 80k and made no attempt to pull over and let me and the dozen or so cars that had built up behind me get past...very inconsiderate. it was in a 100kph limit single carriage way, but we have been through this before so driver not car. :grin:

I'm not saying drive slow because you have a small car, I normally drive up to the limit, and some years back I did pile up a few points for breaking the limit, not wanting to lose my license I now keep nearer the limit; road and weather conditions obviously need to be taken into account but I agree there is no need to be inconsiderate and hold up others.
