Tchaikovsky's heterosexuality

Lets just judge the guy on his wonderful music (thats from an avid jazz fan).
I watched "Swan Lake" By the Siberian Ballet Group on Sunday 6th Mar. and was
overwhelmed by his music and the Group's performance.

Bravo, John. I fully agree that he--like any other person, musician or otherwise--should be judged by their merits and contributions and not on any other criteria such as sexual proclivity, gender or race. Hear Hear!

I believe it was Monsieur D'Epinay who intoned this sentiment, in this very thread . . . four years ago -- if imbecility was painful, everyone on this forum would be in agony.

As for me, I DON'T LIKE TSCHAIKOWSKY and, say,David Bowie. I like ( and very much ) Elton John and Freddie Mercury. If the music is good - then the sexual orientation of the composer is not that important, isn't it?

Freddie died from AIDS, Tchaikovsky (in English we write it that way) didn't. LOL. This place, if you don't mind is rather for classical music...Then Elton John and Mercury are not discussed here.

Frankly, I wonder how anybody can still write that Tchaikovsky's homosexuality has """virtually no support"""... The previously censured parts of his correspondance make clear that he had sex with men, as Poznansky, a distinguished specialist of Tchaikovsky's life, showed it in his books. Moreover, Modest, Tchaikovsky's brother, states clearly in his autobiography that Piotr was homosexual, like himself. So it's a conclusive fact that Tchaikovsky was homosexual. The title of you post "Tchaikovsky's heterosexuality", is complete nonsense, not even "speculation".

People allege HERE that there would be "virtually no support" for Tchaikovsky's homosexuality. I reply that this historical fact has been scholarly and definitely proven by strong evidences. Even in 2007, it was the case for some time, except for ignorant people or people suffering from bad faith.

In the context of THAT particular thread, THAT is important as far as I am concerned. It was not about Tchaikovsky's music. ;)

Because that thread was not about Tchaikovsky's music, but rather on Tchaikovsky's """heterosexuality""". A non existing heterosexuality, of course, according to all serious biographers and to all evidences. But that title is a pernicious way to associate artificially the words "Tchaikovsky" and "heterosexuality" on google. Crystal clear. ^^

Let me help you out here, JHC, and I should have seen this thread sooner.

First of all, the word gay as implying same-sex wasn't around back then,
so no-one ever called anyone gay, except for gayblades.
The overpopulation of humans on this earth is creating mammalian stresses,
just as other mammal species experience, and develop symptoms from.
Raping, stealing food, fighting over mates, same-sex and incest.

That's what gay is, ambivalence about your own sexuality, and life.
Lesbian is still women loving women, and homosexuality is men loving men,
what's gone on since time began, even if it helps to do drugs and get bombed.
Here in Ontario, Canada, I never saw the word gay until the eighties.
That's when people in Toronto started promoting gay pride.

And, uh, oh yeah, don't be shy, JHC. I always thought you were too thick,
even if I just imagined it. Just like that new song I wrote today.
