The only Australian film I have actually purchased is MALCOLM. A twentyish orphan with learning disabilities and a love of trams who gets involved with an ex jailbird. Very funny and highly recommended. Stars Colin Friels. Music performed by the Penguin Café Orchestra adds to the atmosphere

^ Was a very good and funny film too.

Suggest you try Dimboola- much older and a film version of a stage play by Jack Hibberd, with the captain matchbox whoopee band! providing the music centerpiece!

9th Company, a Russian film detailing the "baptism by fire" of one group of young men who volunteer to fight in Afghanistan during the USSR'S waning days there. Too bad our own leaders didn't view this before committing our soldiers to the same hellhole, less than two decades later.

Last night watched THE SHINING Not quite as good as the book but Stephen King is a master at building the suspense

Via Netflix, Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11. I don't know what's more upsetting anymore: the fact that Dubya and his cronies stole the 2000 Election, or that Al Gore {even though I mostly agree him on this issue} has become a shameless paid shill for the global warming lobby. I still firmly believe, however, that he would have made a much better president than Bush. At the very least, a lot of American service men and women would be alive and/or in one piece today had he rightly acceded to that office. Not to mention all the "collateral damage" we caused in Iraq and Afghanistan in the form of innocent civilians killed and maimed.

Blast From The Past. A family lock themselves in a nuclear fallout bunker for thirty years, believing that President Kennedy has precipitated a war with Russia. What will be there when they emerge? A comedy with a different slant

That sounds like a very interesting premise, Teddy. Thanks for sharing. I shall now check Netflix and see if I can order this.

Quite an old film Steve and like Vanishing Point quoted at a silly figure on Amazon. Luckily I managed to pick up a copy for £2.50

Waterworld with Kevin Costner

The ice caps melt and the world is underwater. A bit like Mad Max but in boats. Light entertainment but I enjoyed the sailing scenes.

Tonight - Taxi Driver - Robert DeNiro.

Superb. Possibly his best part. A study in madness

"You talking to ME"? He is great in this Ted. Have you ever seen him as Jake La Motta in Raging Bull? Another tour de force as well.

Via Netflix, A Last Quartet, starring Catherine Keener, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Christopher Walken. A very well made movie depicting the very turbulent private lives/rivalries of four chamber ensemble musicians who have been together--both professionally and personally--for 25 years. I found it to be sensitive and realistic.

It was on televison a few weeks ago but so late that I could not stay awake for it. It is definitely on the list. I must get something to record on now my old VCR has gone West.

It's nice to see someone else admit to liking "Waterworld", my favorite sun and splash film, with global pretensions.
There is a serious, new contender, "Into the Blue", a Caribbean background without derriere apprehensions.

Sounds interesting John. I will look out for it. I generally like films with small boats in them. Especially sailing boats.
