• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

Many thanks for the Bach, just what I was looking for.. With a bit of arranging to add pedals and left hand harmony to enrich the structure it will sound fabulous. Once again many thanks

Harmony is written in "Basse continue" method (I do not know the English words for that). Do you need help to make the organ transcription or to check your work ?

This piece works so well for me on the violin (in E major) that I find Bach's organ arrangement of it as he used it in the cantata just plain odd!

Hi folks,

The time has come when I have a request...

I'm looking for good edition of Beethoven's 1st and 2nd symphony + Coriolan ouverture. Can anyone help?

I can offer some Bach and Schubert and quite a lot of jazz pdf materials in return.

Edit:
Have just noticed this thread is in Pipe Organ Forum:crazy:... Does it, by any chance, work with orchestral music as well??

I recently found two pieces by Eugene Gigout, they were listed under "Gregorian Album by Eugene Gigout". The pieces are number 1 and 62. I'm looking for something with the same "flavour", the pieces are easy enough so I could learn them in a couple of hours and everybody in church like them. My teachers is borrowed my book and is using other pieces from it, but some of them are a bit out of my league.

Can anybody suggest simmilar music by other composers?

In the same vein, there are Boëllmann's Heures Mystiques opp.29-30. I'm not aware of a free PDF version of the whole work, but some extracts can be downloaded here:

Do you know of a website where I can find out how to change multiple instrument music into organ notation? I have a lot of midi files, when I open them in Finale I get the printed score, but for every instrument used. I don't have a clue where to start transcribing all these different instruments into something that can be played on an organ.

I don't know about a website, but I can offer the following advice in regard to MIDI files. If you want to edit the actual MIDI file (in a sequencer program such as Cakewalk Sonar, Cubase, etc) before opening it up in a notation program, I would be inclined to create three new MIDI tracks (ie, right hand, left hand and feet) and then copy and merge the required track data into the appropriate track. After doing that, save the three track "condensation" as a new MIDI file and then open that file in your notation program. There'll no doubt be some tidying up of parts/voices but it's a start, and it's what I used to do before using Sibelius.

Sibelius has the handy "Arrange" function which you can use to, for example, condense an orchestral score to a piano arrangement or vice versa. It's not perfect and there's always tidying up to do, but again, it's a useful start.

Greetings to all !

I don't know if you are aware of, but there is the large PETRUCCI free music library with tons of Organ works scores. I've allready build a large Organ scores library in my hard disk. To find it just type in your search engines IMSLP and you're there. There's also a direct link, when you're in a composers file, with Wikkipedia for more valuable information!

And a question to more expirienced members here:
Can I scan a music score, lets say Bach's Pastorale, from my Novello book and send it here for a member who may wants it? And if yes how?

Hello there!

I think that if you are looking for Classical repertoir scores, you will be able to find them at
FreeScores.com or you might even try IMSLP.

Contra-64 -- You mention Virgil Fox adding stops without the crescendo pedal. I've seen a number of tapes of him playing, and he seemed to do a lot of hand-changing stops. So much so that I wonder how he stayed with the music as written. Of course he was known for doing his own version of things!!

BTW -- the Wannamaker has stop TABS, so they couldn't be "pulled out". And given the size of that thing, one would have to practically know the locations of stops by memory to hand-change much. I wonder how much Fox played that organ.
