hmmm, summer ... what dismal joy that is for us in the southwest desert :grin: :crazy:

We do have water concerns here too - our water mostly comes from underground sources, fed mostly by the summer monsoons. The rest comes from the Colorado River, which tastes like warm water that has been sitting in a rubber hose for sevaral days ... yucky, to say the least ... we use that for washing and irrigation ... need to use faucet purifiers to make it suitable for drinking.

I hope that the folk in TN will find relief from their water problems soon ... keep us posted :cheers:.

Concerning declining water supply in rapidly expanding urban areas, I heard an interesting news report on public radio about Perth, in western Australia. If I understood correctly, this part of the world is booming with population growth and construction, etc., because of Chinese and, more generally, Asian economic expansion. Situated near the Indian Ocean, Perth was nevertheless running out of drinking water! They combined two energy efficient technologies for what appears to be a success story: 48 huge wind turbines, located far north of the city, are used specifically to run a desalination plant which produces perfectly drinkable water. Arizona is not on the edge of the Pacific Ocean but if we can use pipelines for oil and gas, surely it can also be done for water.

So far it's been a really cool summer here in Mtl.; I only used the a/c two or three times. This evening it's going down to 9 degrees Celsius. Guess I can't complain; I don't like the heat. But that's awfully cold for this time of year. Crazy stuff...

today the weather is hot here in Madisonville,kentucky. Yesturday the
temperatures reached 104 and that's without the 78% humidity! Whew!
I hope next week that it cools down some. I don't really blame globel
warming. This is just the sign of the times right now.

Kentucky hasn't had such a heatwave since the seventies of 1977. We had a drought
that year, and in 1986 we had another hot drought. This year I guess will go down
in the history books for the hottest summer and coldest winter. Last winter was almost
as cold as some of the other states up north like New York for example. Two years
ago another unheard of disaster happened here in November of 05. That was a
tornado and the reminants of two hurricanes Dennis and Katrina. Here in Kentucky!
Kentucky summers are hot but not like this! I'm hoping that it cools down next
week. Everybody's lawn is dead as a doornail. Even the toughest weeds here can't
take it. Their dieing in this heat.

"I started to envy the 82 degrees and saw 28 Cel.! I imagine that the
overnight low is about 60+degrees? That sounds a lot cooler than
104 here in Madisonville. Today the sun is behind the clouds and has
cooled to 95. It is still hot! It feels like Arizona outside. I had to sike
myself out last night to stay cool. I don't have air conditioning except
for two fans blowing me in the face to keep me cool. Ha! :grin:

This is one of the summers that we get a bermuta high this year and when
the west and pacific suffers an El nino we have a hot drought from it and a
rough cold winter. This time our winter was bitterly cold with subzero
temps that froze our water pipes and I felt like my face was froze by the
time I got to the nearest business from home. Like the rules say about
the electric heater to stay four feet, I had to almost hug it to stay warm
during the day.

Isn't this unusual weather for Mtl? How's the humidity been with those cooler summer days there? I always like to open up the house in fair weather - nothing beats the smell of fresh air after a summer of being closed up with the a/c constantly churning here.

Even the toughest weeds here can't
take it. Their dieing in this heat.

I'll be more than happy to send you mine . We have quite the collection of weeds after the summer rains and now lots of sunshiny days. The bougainvillas have doubled their size since spring, too. Fortunately, it's a small yard in this townhome community.

We are still in the middle 80's (F) here in Arizona ... they are forecasting mid to low 70's next week, but that is always a crapshoot ... two out of every three times the weather men are wrong here ... dead wrong.

The weather here in Madisonville is being a little crazy this fall. Last
week I had to dress up like I was on the north pole. Today it's warm
for this time of year. I laughed when it rained on the Veteran's parade
yesterday. This time two years ago Madisonville suffered a tornado
out in the southern suberbs. That's where the rich live and the country club is!:grin:
This year the weather is just about as crazy. I think people are predicting snow
this winter. That I will believe when I see it. It's still better than the hot temps
we got last summer at 104 degrees. One sunday the bank sign said 105 when
I passed by it at 6:00PM. I literaly burnt up! I hope this next summer is better.

I just got here in Phoenix (more specifically Chandler) on the 4th, The weather here is amazing. I have noticed the weather men are wrong alot, When there is a 10% chance of rain they show rain for the whole day!? That is such a small percentage. :grin: It is also crazy how laid back the news people are here, in Michigan they were uptight as hell, here they are always messing around.

I think If I can make it through the summer, the fall/winter are definatley worth it. :grin:

Hi toejamfootball,

Welcome to Arizona ... sometimes we call it "Aridzona" . Your first summer here will be miserable, but after your blood thins out, you will adjust. Can't beat the fall/winter weather though. I came here from Washington state - that was quite an adjustment for me.

Chandler is a great community, a little more laid back than the main city of Phoenix, but I still get white knuckles everytime I have drive the freeways up there - it's much calmer in Tucson, although I-10 is all torn up here until 2010 as it is widened.

I wished I was in Pheonix guys. It's cold here. I don't know what the
temps are but the wind is blowing and it feels icy cold. I know how
Pheonix is this time of year. Nice! It is supposed to freeze tonight
and what rain that fell yesturday will be a puddle of ice instead of rain
water. Right now I have to wear two sweaters; a long sleeve and short
sleeve, pair of thick socks, knitted cap, two mufflers and lots of chap
stick on my lips and face. It's cold! It's too bad we can't bottle up
some of that 105 degree weather and save it for this time of year.
Brrr! But, that's kentucky for you. Last year it got so cold that our
pipes froze and busted in places. It was a mess. Tomorrow will be
the second anniversery of the tornado that hit my town. I'm glad
we are not under an advisery now waiting for a storm to hit.
