:guitar: Whom among the many great prog rock guitarists would you deem to have had a seminal influence on this genre, whether it be from a technical, creative or innovative standpoint :confused: Some that come immediately to mind for me are: Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck , John Mclaughlin and Robin Trower, but I know there are many many more.:eek: Some help, please.:crazy:

Hi Teddy,
I absolutely agree with you on Steve Miller and that album. I would also add to that his work Children of the Future, which is a somewhat older album. Some really great "progressive " sounds and effects on that one as well. Are you by any chance familiar with that album? p,s. I tried posting this in yellow or bright green ink; for some reason neither attempt was successful. :banghead: Sorry. :cry: I'll give it another go the next time I post to you or Mike. :banana: Steve

Hi Mike: I just finished opening an account with lastfm.com and was sampling some ELP and Sky. And Mike, it's the bomb!:banana::banana: Once I learn how to navigate it better, I'll be able to share links with you, Teddy and all my other friends on this forum. You are puting me to shame Steve. I will have to have a look at last fm over the holiday, when I get some time to myself. Ha ha ha.
I will also have to revisit Steve Miller. A lot of my music is still on vinyl and does not get played so often as I would like. One of my chores will be to make sure everything is alphabetic, to aid searches. I must have the best part of eighty vinyl albums.

There was a show on Australian TV many years ago that was a very satirical look at news media. On one regular segment they had the standard crawling news text at the bottom of the screen which you would really have to keep an eye on as it would feature stuff totally unrelated to news (such as "News program leader-writer seeks attractive female, must like pets and fast typing" and stuff like that). There was one that was a genuine LOL moment for me: "Santana fans concerned that the next solo may not end"

Seriously though, he's a superb player and I do like listening to him - he especially comes into his own when playing live and "fleshing out" a lot of the studio tracks.

Hi Soubasse. I am in total agreement with your observations re: Carlos Santana. I wish I lived in Australia as I would have liked to have seen that satirical show you cited.

I am going to mention John Martyn here, as I have previously done on other threads. Inside Out certainly earned him the title of progressive as did a lot of his playing.

This last link is from his folk days, but he still played it, by popular request.

I was lucky to see him play three times. He generated a fantastic atmosphere partly because of his rapport with the audience. Never failed to get a standing ovation. Great musician, much missed.
