Part of our local problem with driving are the many differences in signal light operations in regards to left turns onto another road.

Some signals have leading left where the left turners get first priority; others are lagging left where the left turners get their green at the end of the cycle.
Then there are the left on green arrow only and now the Michigan Left where one has to continue through the intersection and make a U-Turn back to the main road and then turn right.

To visitors in our region this has to be most confusing ... but our roads are a mixture of ownership: city, county and state owned - and each has their own way of programming signal lights.

In all though, it appears that drivers on the road today are being much too aggressive ... they all want to be first and at the head of the line at the next stop light. I choose a moderate speed and usually pull up next to them at the stop light where they have been sitting for a minute or so because they had to speed up to be the first one at the next red light for whatever reason.

Tailgaters are the worst around here ... they aren't going to get there any sooner by trying to drive up through my tail pipe ... usually those are the ones yakking on their mobile phones while driving.

Years ago I had a bumper sticker on my car that read "watch my rear end, not hers" ... those were the days before mobile phones.

Roads over here have lane markings on the road surface so you know which lane to be in approaching a junction some will have an arrow straight ahead, left or right, sometimes a road number or destination as well, these are OK in light to medium traffic but once it gets nose to tail you can't see the road surface. There are many air heads who never look at the road surface (it's beneath them to look down maybe) they are usually the ones that approach a junction in the left turn lane but go straight ahead and get all shirty and blowing their horn when they get cut up (for them what drive on the other side, instead of left, read right).

We also have quite a few signs reading "no right turn except buses" sure are some funny looking buses around here; many of them look like late model BMW, Audi or Merc, and quite a few Chelsea tractors, they can't be bothered to drive a hundred yards or so to a roundabout to do a U turn.

One way to deal with them is just to keep slowing down and if you really want to stick it to em speed up when they try to pass and give em the fingers.
