Duck shooting starts on May 1st so all the ducks are heading for the lakes in the cities and other sanctuaries, the deer over the river have been on the roar for about 3 weeks the leaves are falling and we have an infestation of mice so autumn is well and truly here

We have now had about eighteen months of wet weather and it has certainly got me down. I will be no wetter in the swimming pool. We have lost a couple of shrubs where the ground became waterlogged and then froze, killing the roots. The good news is that we are now due for a plague of slugs. Something to look forward to..

All the blooms are late. We only have about 25% of the flowers on the Forsythia that we would normally expect. The only thing doing well is the Celandine which looks very pretty. No spring flowers to speak of. I am late planting Lavender this year, but I don't think it will matter.

Everything is about five weeks behind. The fruit harvest is expected to be of good quality but with a lower production than normal. Potatoes will have suffered along with most root vegetable because of the waterlogged ground. Food prices will almost certainly go up because of the shortages. Just what we need at the moment. This will have a knock on effect with animal feed resulting in higher meat costs. Commercial fishing is highly restricted pushing the price of fish up. Solyent Green anyone?

I judge the coming of Spring and Summer by my actions. I can now drive with the car window open ( being an ex motor cyclist I prefer this) I no longer need a sweater in the daytime, just a jacket. I can have the bedroom window open at night without being blown out of bed. I have even sat in the garden without freezing. It is on its way, but slowly. Very slowly.

My last was a Suzuki 250cc Sport. Not terribly fast (about 110 mph) and a little short of power two up but great fun. I would have loved a British bike, espesially a Triumph. Have you read TRAVELS WITH JUPITER? A true story written quite a few years ago a young man sets of to travel around the world on a new Triumph. Wonderful adventures and for anyone keen on bikes a very entertaining book. I must have read it forty years ago and then it was republished about three years back and I picked up a copy. Just as good second time around. I am suprised it was never made into a film.
